Кстати, другой писатель ужастиков (очень даже известный) похоронен у нас, в Провдинесе. Знаешь такого - Говард Лафкрафт?
А Мэн - вроде недалече, но я там не была...
Про Новую Англию - вот статья, заодно и в англ. потренируешься (последние строчки тебя и интересуют):
In 1607 the London Joint stock company invested money into a new continent-America. They sent the first ships with settlers to what is now called Jamestown , New York. They were trying to make quick money there, looking for gold or silver. They were out of luck. The company went bancrupt. Then another company- the Plymouth Join Stock Company decided to give it a try. This time they were smarter. Instead of looking for gold they started exploring the new continent, looking for other alternative ways of making money. That was when they sent John Smith, a soldier of fortune, to explore the region which was to the North of Virginia. Probably while he was wandering there, it reminded him of England (which he left in 1606) and he called that area New England. New England nowadays are the states which are to the North of New York (Vremount, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and so on).
