Сегодня - международный день отказа от курения

Каждый год отмечаются две даты, посвященные проблеме курения табака - 31 мая (Всемирный день без табачного дыма) и третий четверг ноября (Международный день отказа от курения ) - с целью привлечения внимания общественности к негативным последствиям курения табака.
Международный день отказа от курения отмечается по инициативе Международного общества онкологов и при поддержке Всемирной организации здравоохранения (ВОЗ). В мае 2003 года ВОЗ была принята Конвенция по борьбе против табака, к которой присоединились более 90 стран, в том числе и Россия.
Бытует выражение, что "капля никотина убивает лошадь". Некоторые ученые считают, что эта капля способна убить не одну, а трех лошадей. Что же касается людей, то смертельная доза никотина для человека - 50-100 миллиграммов. При выкуривании в день 20-25 сигарет за 30 лет курильщик пропускает через свои легкие 150-160 килограммов табака и не умирает только оттого, что вводит его небольшими дозами.
Табачный дым вызывает и обостряет многие болезни, действуя практически на все органы. По статистике, 45 процентов смертей прямо или косвенно связаны с табакокурением. Учеными установлено, что при выкуривании одной пачки сигарет человек получает дозу радиации в семь раз больше той, которая признана предельно допустимой. А радиация табачного происхождения вкупе с другими канцерогенными веществами - главная причина возникновения рака.
По данным ВОЗ, от различных болезней, связанных с курением, умирает 4,9 миллиона человек в год. Смертность от рака легкого у курящих людей в 20 раз выше, чем у некурящих. Любители табака в 13 раз чаще страдают стенокардией и в 10 раз чаще язвой желудка.
К сожалению, сигарета прочно вписалась в жизнь общества. Для многих курить так же естественно, как умываться, чистить зубы, есть, пить. В Российской Федерации по причинам, связанным с курением , ежегодно умирают 300-400 тысяч человек.
Установлено, что до 90 процентов людей начинают курить с молодости. Средний возраст начинающих курильщиков в России - 11 лет. В седьмых-восьмых классах систематически курят 8-12 процентов учеников, в девятых-десятых - уже 21-24 процента. Американские исследователи утверждают, что именно молодые курильщики (до 18 лет) не могут в дальнейшем расстаться с сигаретой до конца жизни. Молодые люди уверены, что бросить курить легко. Но далеко не всем удается избавиться от никотиновой зависимости.
Пассивное курение не менее опасно - оно пагубно влияет на дыхательную систему, кроме того, табачный дым - сильнейший аллерген. Пассивный курильщик вдыхает те же самые опасные вещества, что и любитель сигарет, несмотря на их малую концентрацию.
Борьба с курением идет во всем мире. В 140 странах были приняты законы, ограничивающие курение. В Сингапуре в некоторых городах существуют целые "некурящие" кварталы. В Америке некоторые фирмы вообще отказываются брать на работу курильщиков. Существует запрет на производство некоторых видов табачных изделий, например, особо крепких или сигарет без фильтра. Многие производители строят свои заводы за рубежом без права реализации на родине.
После введения в России в действие федерального закона "Об ограничении курения табака" (июль 2001 года, с последующими изменениями и дополнениями в декабре 2002 и ноябре 2004 года) в стране появились позитивные изменения. По данным последних социологических исследований, число курильщиков снижается.

The Lithuanian man played a wedding in 102 years

The oldest bridegroom in the history of Lithuania, and maybe in the whole of Europe, has become a 102-year-old Stanislovas Grigas, last Saturday linking themselves knit marriage with 76-year-old Brone Mikutene, transmits the BBC.

A wedding was held in the city of Kaunas. According to the information , newly -weds met 35 years ago, in 1972, when Grigas was still married to another woman. She died in 1992, and then became Mikutene became to help with the housework . In 1995 died Grigas‘s first son died, and in 2006, last spring Brone moved to live Stanislovas‘place.

Политехнические университеты Петербурга и Вильнюса будут сотрудничать






ОбразованиеСАНКТ-ПЕТЕРБУРГ, 4 ноября. Договор о сотрудничестве Санкт-Петербургского государственного политехнического университета (СПбГПУ) и Вильнюсского технического университета имени Гидеминаса подписали накануне ректоры Михаил Федоров и Ромуальдас Гиневичус. Это первый подобный договор в истории обоих университетов, сообщает пресс-служба СПбГПУ.

Согласно договору, петербургский и литовский вузы разработают совместные учебные программы, будут обмениваться студентами и преподавателями, проводить совместные научные конференции и семинары.

Первый такой семинар решено провести весной 2008 года в Вильнюсе. В нем примут участие ведущие факультеты обоих университетов. Цель семинара – конкретно определить взаимные интересы вузов.

While wrapping the gloves, the clerk accidentally mixed up the order and sent a pair of "panties" instead.

You never know what you can do till you try.

On the 10th of November the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by one of the most famous conductors of Lithuania, a world-famous musician and orchestra educator professor Saulius Sondeckis. Violoncello solo will be played by the conductor’s son Vytautas Sondeckis, the Radio of Germany Orchestra’s concertmaster, the laureate of several international competitions, a soloist. There will be the overture from the music to the play “Rozamunda” by Franz Schubert performed as well as “The Great Symphony” C-dur and “The Concert for Violoncello and Orchestra” by Edward Elgar. The concert will take place in The Congress Palace of Vilnius.

Saulius Sondeckis’ name has been well-known in the world of music for a very long time. Over the 50 years of creative work with the chamber orchestra established and educated by him, the conductor has visited many countries. This orchestra was considered as one of the most professional orchestras in the world (apart from “Virtuosos of Moscow” and “Muzici di Rome”).

Although Saulius Sondeckis does not lead The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra any longer, and rarely gives concerts in Lithuania, his life of creator remains very tense. The conductor is a creative leader and a senior conductor of St Petersburg State Hermitage Orchestra and the main invited conductor of The Chamber Orchestra “Virtuosos of Moscow” established by V. Spivakov. Right now Saulius Sondeckis gives a great number of concerts in various cities of Russia, receives applauses from the music lovers in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Latvia, the Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Japan. Very recently the talent of the Lithuanian professor was highly evaluated by the leaders of the famous St. Petersburg N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov Academy: on the 20th of October Saulius Sondeckis was awarded by the title of Honour Professor of this higher school.

Vilnius to Become the European Capital of Culture 2009
Members of the Selective Panel, famous figures of European culture, emphasized the vitality and enthusiasm of the project drafters. The panel expressed its confidence that Vilnius will be able duly prepare and implement an ambitious programme of the capital of culture.
In April, the Vilnius city delegation led by Mayor Artūras Zuokas presented the project "Vilnius, the European Capital of Culture 2009" in Brussels. A project concept, main trends of the programme, development of urban infrastructure, budget forecasts and expected management structure have been presented to the Selective Panel for the European Capital of Culture. After familiarization with the projects submitted by the cities, the experts delegated from the EU institutions that form the Selective Panel expressed their opinion (recommendation) on artistic value of the programme and readiness of the applicant to become the European Capital of Culture. The report prepared by this panel will be addressed to the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council. After the European Parliament expresses its opinion on the nominations, the Council of European Culture Ministers considering recommendation of the expert panel may officially designate the applicant city as the European Capital of Culture not later than within three months.
The main theme of the project „VILNIUS CV (Creativity and Vitality)“ is Vitality of European culture. This project aims to reveal European identity of Vilnius. The preliminary programme of cultural events consists of 18 big projects.
The Vilnius project ensures European dimension of cultural events, all-year-round implementation of the programme, engagement of various social, age and interest groups, special attention to the projects implemented together with the other European Capital of Culture, Linz city, and continuity of the programme.
The Lithuanian capital is one of the most prepared cities of new EU member countries to link traditions of the European culture with nowadays challenges. While preparing to this programme and during its implementation, the city will aim not only to reveal and actualize historical links of culture but also to expand this cultural experience with other European countries and create new values of European culture.
Since 1996 Vilnius city actively seeks the title of the European Capital of Culture and participates in cultural events of other European capitals. In 2001, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania applied to Education and Culture Commissioner of the European Commission asking the European Parliament, the Council, the Commission and the Committee of the Regions to designate Vilnius as the European Capital of Culture 2009. The aim of Vilnius to become the European Capital of Culture is provided in the Strategic Plan of Vilnius City for the years 2002 – 2011. The project „Vilnius, the European Capital of Culture 2009“ is a part of the programme for celebration of Lithuania‘s 1000th anniversary.
T he title of the European Capital of Culture is granted to cities since 1985, when on the initiative of the then Minister of Culture of Greece Melina Mercouri the EU Council approved the programme „The European Capital of Culture“.
