PPA opposes amendment to iPoker bill

Суббота, 04 Мая 2024 г. 16:18 + в цитатник
John A. Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), a leading poker grassroots advocacy group with 1.2 million members nationwide and more than 90,000 members in California, released the following statement today urging lawmakers to reject proposed amendments to AB 2863, a bill meant to authorize and regulate online poker. These proposed amendments would limit competition and make players dissatisfied. In addition, these amendments would make AB 2863 less likely to pass.

"We are extremely disappointed that Chairman Adam Gray has chosen to play politics according to the demands of his special interests. The proposed amendments threaten to destroy the iPoker Act, which we and our lawmakers have advocated for years. Since the Internet poker debate began in California nearly a decade ago, the PPA has been the only consistent voice urging lawmakers to authorize and regulate Internet poker. During this time, our message has been consistent: to protect consumers and promote competition. Unfortunately, some of Gray's proposals undermine this principle.

A last-minute introduction of the so-called "bad actor" amendment would, in reality, be nothing more than an anti-competitive step by which Amaya/PokerStars and their Californian tribes and cardroom partners would be barred from the regulated market. Furthermore, some argue that the bill is a temporary ban for five years, but review of the proposed amendments reveals that it is in fact a lifetime ban. This raises serious constitutional questions and raises questions about whether a bill with the phrase can be enacted, assuming it could pass clear dissent. Above all, they threaten to prolong the time for consumers waiting for regulated online poker in California.

In addition, the objectives of the amendments themselves were flawed. Excluding Amaya/PokerStars would be detrimental for a number of reasons. California consumers would be without one of the most trusted and popular online poker brands in the world. For years, California businesses have been waiting for PokerStars and its proven technology to return. Their presence in the marketplace has increased competition, raising the bar for all businesses to offer consumer-driven products. This is the latest in New Jersey. If the amendments become law, they would permanently be on the sidelines of businesses with the most experience protecting online consumers, from preventing underage access and mitigating problem gambling to anti-collusion and m  oney laundering measures. This would be a loss not only for consumers but for the entire state of California.  슬롯사이트 순위

We do not believe that PPA should grant anyone the right to operate Internet poker in California. We believe that certification for the operation of Internet poker is a privilege that must be acquired through a robust vetting process, and that questions of suitability should be left to independent California gaming regulators. Legislating the "bad actors" clause would prevent regulators from fulfilling such an independent role.

We urge Chairman Gray and other members of Congress to pass legislation that authorizes Internet poker. We want an iPoker market that is strong, safe, open, and competitive. It is the best outcome for California consumers."

Gambling This Week: US Online Gambling Wins

Среда, 17 Апреля 2024 г. 08:37 + в цитатник
The fight for online gambling in the U.S. may be over, and it looks like the good guys have won. In the New Hampshire Lottery case, the First Circuit Court of Appeals made its decision, and the Justice Department is not happy about it because online gambling in the U.S. has set a new record.

The New Hampshire Lottery Commission won a lawsuit filed against the U.S. Department of Justice in 2018 over a "face-to-face" change of opinion on the Federal Front Act. It is a major victory for U.S. online gambling and the second loss for the Justice Department in the case.

The First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the plaintiff, the New Hampshire Lottery Board, as Jeff Ifra, the attorney involved in the lawsuit, first reported. So the Justice Department's new interpretation of the law is to uphold the lower court's decision to invalidate.

Ifrah serves as a committee of IDEA Growth, a coalition of businesses, payment processors, and other companies involved in online gambling. After this article was published, IDEA released its own statement, including Ifrah's comments. Much of the appeal decision, as it did at the district court level, concerns the ambiguous linguistic composition of the original statute, which was passed by Congress in 1961.

The DOJ can now appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. But there is no guarantee that it will do this, nor that the Supreme Court will agree to hear the case.   슬롯머신사이트

This Week In Gambling: Vegas Casino Regulations Cut Down

Среда, 17 Апреля 2024 г. 06:26 + в цитатник
A glitch in the BetMGM sports betting app has created anger and confusion and forced the police to report gambling news all week. Additionally, Las Vegas casino regulations are being pushed back a little at a time, and the Super Bowl streaker is trying to collect his stunts.

In addition to declining tourists and losing revenue, the BetMGM sports betting app experienced several issues over the weekend, forcing Las Vegas police to show up to keep the peace.

Metropolitan Police was called to several MGM resort properties around Las Vegas after angry bettors said MGM refused to bet the game. The company app appeared to have crashed just midway through the Super Bowl, but it later turned out to be a glitch caused by human error.

Gamblers were reportedly upset by a few MGM sports books, resulting in police entering the accommodation and threatening customers, being arrested and permanently banned from all MGM casinos.

Adam Greenblatt, CEO of BetMGM, later confirmed that the outage was a mistake caused by an error, which is why downtime was limited to Nevada and not nationwide. "It was specific, an unfortunate consequence of human error ..." he said," ..."It's settled."

BetMGM and iGaming have become important parts of MGM's business, and they are working to position themselves as leaders. Investments and partnerships have been in the news over the past year as the scramble to get American gamblers to join has intensified.   슬롯사이트 추천
