Artist: DIGIMORTAL
Album: Neobratimost

One of the cooler bands from Russia is definitely Digimortal. This five-piece, existing since 2004, released a few websingles in the past (which were brought together on a promo, simply called Singles 2006) which had a good affection on me. Their specific style, with strong guitar riffs, powerful drumming and sticky vocal parts turned out to be pretty accessable, and although they use Russian lyrics some chorusses are pretty catchy. Anno 2007, they signed a label deal with Russian label Sound Age Productions, and they released their debut album Neobratimost upon mankind, which was produced by wellknown producer Jacob Hansen.

The album opens with the title track, Neobratimost. It opens with some cool industrial sounds, to evolve in a modern, even cyberish industrial metal track. It consists of really powerful drumming, idem dito guitarwork and some wicked electronic samplings. Belka & Strelka is more accessable. It has wicked guitarwork, bashing drums, recogniseable vocal lines and a sticky chorus. The sampling is a little mixed to the background, but without the sampling the song would be really missing something exceptional. Tibet comes up next. Its a more downtempo track, with atmospheric verses, midtempo instrumental parts and a refreshing, wellfitting chorus. The easy listening vocal lines make the track more accessable. Yasherica is again a more midtempo song, with wicked drumming and strong vocal lines. The guitarwork is straight to the point and fits the song very well, and the electronic sampling on the little intermezzo has a refreshing attitude. Mekhanicheskiy Rassvet is a very modern and atmospheric track, with cool (also literally) sampling, gentle vocal lines and dark guitar riffs. The drumming is both gentle and powerful, which gives this song a strong attitude. R-Evolucia consists of brutal verses, electronic sampling, powerful drumming and a gentle chorus, which give the song an atmospheric touch. Tancui! follows. Its a more experimental track, which is constantly swapping from electro to metal moments, and consists of experimental sampling and drumworks. The guitar riffs are strong, specially when mixed with the powerful electronic parts, while the vocal lines are gentle but straight to the point. M.A.S.H.I.N.A. is already the eighth track of the release. It opens with clean guitarwork and cold keylines. What follows is an easy listening, modern metal and electronic based track with atmospheric keylines, catchy vocal lines and gentle musical works. Ya vash vrag! is again more brutal. It contains bashing drumwork, powerful guitarwork and very wicked sampling. The vocal lines are pretty sticky (specially the chorus), and all together make this track my personal favourite on the release. The album ends with Poslezavtra, which is a piano outro.

Digimortal fulfilled my high expectations on Neobratimost with ease. When it comes to songwriting skills and devotion, this band cant be learned anything new. The combination of modern metal, industrial and experimental approaches plus the hand of producer Jacob Hansen turns out to be a golden chain. If youre open minded enough to listen to an album in Russian, theres no reason to not buy this CD.
