Starlight? Volunteer as a surrogate to finally gain a scrap of adulation from Sunburst? Have his baby as a secret means of binding them together forever, their respective marriages be damned? What an awful accusation, how could you even think it! Starlight would never......

....get caught.



note: Starlight Glimmer doesn't actually want Sunburst romantically.....at least, not anymore. She simply views him as a symbol of her lost idyllic youth (psst more on that here: ), which is why she's so territorial about him, even in the show. By reconnecting with Sunburst, Starlight hopes to return to happier times, when her world was less complicated. Starlight loves her wife Sunset but her fixation with Sunburst persists.....

Luster Dawn's canon personality seems to be a mashup of season 1 Twilight ("i don't need friends!") and Starlight ("i'm certain i know better than you, actual alicorn princess"), and, well, been there, done that. Gonna make some tweakssss to her

Luster Dawn is a student of magic, as encouraged by her father Sunburst, mentor Twilight, and bio mom/"auntie" Starlight Glimmer. Her real passion, however, lies in inventing. She greatly idolizes her dad, Flash Sentry, and wishes nothing more than to fly like him someday. When Starlight eagerly informs Luster she knows a powerful sustained levitation spell, Luster politely declines, saying she wants to craft a mechanical set of through engineering alone, just to prove she can. Starlight considers this a silly pipe dream, and really wishes Luster would spend less time looking like a grease-monkey and more time studying to be a proper mage- perhaps even a protege to one of the princesses eventually....perhaps (Starlight hopes), a princess herself, someday.

Unfortunately Luster isn't remotely interested in becoming a princess......she's honestly not even sure she's interested in being a mare at all. Luster is nonbinary, and uses she/they pronouns.



3.) a much more recent drawing, where i tweak luster a bit further


Luster Dawn and Midnight Abyss were raised as distant cousins (with Dawn living in the Crystal Empire, and Midnight in Ponyville), but biologically they are half-siblings. Looking at Dawnie and Midnight you'd assume they'd clash, but this pair actually gets along pretty well. For all Luster's bright, cheery appearance, she doesn't actually give a flying feather about friendship, much preferring to invest all her energy into wild (and often unethical) experiments. She got all of Sunburst's intelligence, all of Starlight's disregard for ponykind, and virtually none of Flash' Sentry's humility. Luster will play god with a grin on her face! >:3

Midnight, who resurrects corpses for fun, finds Luster very refreshing. Dawnie's ideas are often harebrained and convoluted, but some of them are.....interesting, to say the least (...Could you really use alicorn cells to grow an alicorn's horn and replicate their magic?), and Midnight is willing to provide a calm sounding board to temper Luster's wild streak. It was Luster who helped Midnight electrically reanimate her first dead lab rat, and it was Midnight who helped Luster craft a pair of mechanical wings that only catch fire 50% of the time. Together, the pair prove remarkably competent (and potentially dangerous), so their parents are often....concerned. At the same time, they don't want to get in the way of the closest thing either sibling has to a friend. Midnight likes that Luster doesn't pressure her to talk or feign positivity, while Luster appreciates that her sister-cousin tolerates her endless chatter and doesn't chide her for not making eye contact or forgetting to wipe the oil/dirt/blood off her clothes. Sometimes the sibs even do normal things, like bring spider cookies to Starlight at work, or play video games with Flash, or help Sunburst carry books home from the library, or argue music tastes with Sunset. Big happy totally-not-dubious blended family~
