Starfire (2021) |
Continuing on with my experimenting over the holidays, I gave ClipStudio another try with this Summery Starfire. Unfortunately, the colors in that program are really giving me a hard time when it comes to shading and highlighting, so I moved the inks back over to Corel Painter to finish this piece up. Overall, Im happy with how it turned out especially the inks. I found ClipStudio to move a lot smoother and the inks look cleaner to me, even when the image is a lot larger than you see here.
My Starfire pieces are mostly inspired by the mid-20teens series, written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner, which I really enjoyed.
Anyway, thank you for taking a look. Any comments, critiques, or tips are welcome and appreciated!

Disclaimer: Im red-green colorblind. Because of this, its difficult for me to tell similar shades/hues of different colors apart, and, therefore, I need to work with very limited palettes when I color pieces. For shading and highlights, Ill start with a gray base and lighten or darken shades from there, and then add a color overlay (and, for some skin tones, attempt to add a blue overlay to make it less hot). Ive often been told to be bolder in my highlighting and shading, and Im trying to be so, but& sometimes it still seems pretty tame. Im just saying this in case you mentioned I need to do that on a previous piece Im not ignoring you, and I appreciate the input. Its just not very easy for me to implement confidently.
