...the only city not to have fallen in the path of war since the day it was founded. It changed hands but had never seen war. Its people reckoned this was as much for its beauty as for its impenetrable walls. It was told that no war chief or no emperor could bear to see its beauty tarnished once they laid eyes on this city.
