Here's a little something I don't think I've uploaded anywhere before: the skeletal anatomy of the common crane (
Grus grus), a bird with a special place in Finnish people's hearts. It's always a joy when they arrive in the spring. Most people, even those who don't care for animals usually, feel wistful to see them go in autumn. Since most bird anatomy illustrations depict songbirds, it was nice to be able to do something somewhat unusual.
It's part of the
biology textbooks published by the Finnish National Agency for Education. The books are aimed for students who need extra support, such as those with learning difficulties, or immigrants still learning the language. In addition to the original books, I have been making extra illustrations for the Swedish translation, and this is one of them. As you might know, Finland has a sizable Swedish-speaking minority, dating back to the Middle Ages, and Swedish is the second official language. Thus, we also need Swedish language editions of all schoolbooks. https://www.deviantart.com/eurwentala/art/Crane-Bones-856356720
