The Wheel of Beshaba

One of the Known Worlds most notorious, if luxurious hives of scum and villainy. The Wheel of Beshaba, often known as the Unlucky Lady is a gambling den of legendary renown. Run for centuries by an insular cabal of Sydites (3-meter-tall, four armed humanoids) the station caters to the hedonistic needs of dozens of species. The stations main attraction is the semi-annual Zero Game, a tenth of a standard rotation long series of races to the death utilizing all manner of exotic riding or flying beasts. Part gladiatorial combat, part death-race, the Zero Game draws an eclectic and wealthy crowd of nobility, merchant princes, and crime lords. Prizes to the top riders and sponsors can reach astronomical sums, and it is not uncommon for some high rollers to bet continents worth of territory on a single race. The Zero Game loop follows the course of the stations outer ring, with the track open to the glittering cityscape of the ring itself. Some enterprising sophonts have even managed to bribe the Sydites enough to construct large hanging galleries and transparent observation blisters over the track.

The Wheel hides many secrets, from its origin to its power source. Particularly unlucky individuals may find themselves sold into slavery to cover debts by the ruthless Sydites. The station is patrolled by a vat-grown race of diminutive humanoids, designed to be genetically loyal to the ruling cabal. The Wheels strict neutrality is recognized by most polities, though dueling is perfectly legal within its confines, and is often the source of speculative betting.
