Where once she saw only dry remains - the cracked and broken bones of civilization, smothered by the desert sand and sun - she now sees the life within, thriving, blooming, in the face of all adversity thrown to it.
A small glass bird lies among the rubble, shaded by the grasses. She holds it carefully in her gaze, considering, turning it this way and that in the light of the rising sun.
Rather than hold on tight, she sets it down before she goes, tucked gently into a nest of leaves.
