As my watchers probably now, starting from last summer I was put in a situation where I'm not able to work on my art nearly as much as I'd like to, and working through my remaining commission orders has been a bit of a hassle for a wide variety of reasons. However, my life has recently seen a bit of an upswing on a personal front and I feel more energized  and when that is the case, I tend to get a bit more productive than usual. A couple of months ago, when I was getting closer and closer to wrapping up a stripper-themed commission featuring Paulina and Star (too hot for dA, so you can't find it here, sorry; see my latest journal post for more info), I stumbled across Frederick's drawing of Tex Avery's Red Hot Riding Hood, done in the style of DC Superhero Girls. Being that I'm a big fan of Lauren Faust's art style and I also dabbled a bit within the miniature horse show fan community (though I never went too far... I think), I was very much pleased with what I saw! The gratuituous ass shot also helped.

I rarely do edits of other artists' works as I'm generally not fond of others editing my own works and I don't want to come off as a hypocrite. However, with this one... I couldn't resist. I've been itching to draw a Red Hot picture probably close to eight years now but for one reason or another, something's always been holding me back, be it time or my own lack of skills to pull of the perfect picture of her.

Also, I really wanted to see how the pic would look like as a smart phone wallpaper, although I figured it was probably a better idea to cover her up first. You know, just to be on the safe side.

After that, things sort of got out of hand and I ended up turning the whole thing into a digital painting or airbrushed piece of sorts. I guess? I'm not entirely sure of the terminology. Incredibly enough, this didn't have too big of an effect on my commission output and eventually, I even found myself having a bit of free time while I was waiting for replies from the commissioner regarding any last minute changes which then allowed me to not only tweak the Red pic to weed out any potential mistakes, but also finish a partially-inked Kick Buttowski piece from 2011 (also too hot for dA; see the afore-mentioned journal for that as well). Sometimes, life is good.

In the end, however, the biggest thanks will obviously go to Frederick-Art not only for coming up with and drawing the original picture but also for graciously giving me permission to release the edit(s) for you all to see. Enjoy!

Day 28 - Tiny terror: Procariama.

Argentina, 10 million years ago. Its now the Neogene period, and the world has become more and more like it is today; the climate is cooler and drier, and open grasslands dominate the landscape for the first time in history. Most of the modern groups of mammals, birds and reptiles have become dominant, but some oddities remain, and they were abundant on the then isolated continent of South America, including the phorusrhacids or terror birds. This flightless predatory birds were often huge, but some were surprisingly small. Enter Procariama simplex, one of the smallest terror birds. Despite its size, it would have been a formidable predator, and here we see one installing terror into a Miocene plains viscacha (Lagostomus sp.) that is desperately clambering over rocks trying to escape. This time though, the bird is simply curious, and the rodents freakout is probably somewhat amusing to it.
