Autumn Japan
A historic house with autumn momiji [‚X / I] (one of Japanese maple trees) in Higashiyama Botanical Garden Nagoya.
This is an old house brought over from the Hida [Ы(] district and reassembled here. The house of this style is called gasshM-zukuri [Њ Љ], which is famous as houses in Shirakawa-gM [}Эч] and Gokayama [”‡q] (villages in Hida district -ones of heavy snowfall erea in Japan-).
"GasshM"[Њ] means "hand-praying of Buddhism" in Japanese language. A roof of gasshM-zukuri looks like praying hand, so it's called "gasshM"-zukuri. Hida district is very heavy snowfall erea. Therefore houses needed such steep slope roofs.
Leaves of Japanese maples are smaller than ones of suger maple trees which are famous as Canadian maples.
Maples are called "kaede" [KHg / S] in Japan. Especially spacies which have brilliant red cute leaves are called "momiji".
