This rice field just in the outskirts of Vang Vieng in Laos, is the perfect spot to watch the sunset behind the mountains. These are the two main componants of the landscape in this region - The karstic mountains and hills, covered with forest, and the rice fields covering the valleys. We are here in the valley of the Nam Song River. Notice the rice is ready to be harvested.

Cycling the Road 13 regularly offers fabulous views over the countryside of Vang Vieng, Laos, like this one showing terraced rice paddies, with the characteristic mountains in the background. It's late afternoon and the sun is already down behind the mountains, leaving nothing but a great blue sky.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Karsdorf is a municipality in the Burgenlandkreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Recently, Karsdorf became known for its genetic testimonies. Haak et al. published an older, male individual "KAR6a, dated with 5207 to 5070 calBC into the Early-Neolithic Lienbandkeramik, having the Human mitochondrial DNA haplogroup H1 and the Y-haplogroup T1a. The other, female individuum was dated with 2564-2475 cal. BC into the Corded Ware Culture (German Schnurkeramik) and had the mitochondrial haplogroup T1a1.

The castle was constructed in the 14th century by the Countess of Villeneuve. Over the centuries it was rebuilt several times. In the 19th century it was turned into a glass factory. In 1918, it was purchased by Americans, Henry Clews Jr. and Marie Clews (1880-1959), who restored and moved into the castle. They added additional sections in their own personal style, with sculptures by Henry Clews Jr. The castle is owned by the La Napoule Art Foundation, which was founded in 1951 by Marie Clews, and serves as a cultural centre.   After Henry's death and during the Second World War, the castle was captured by German soldiers.
