Thirty feet from the dwelling is appropriate, if you have the space. In addition, the firewood needs to be kept just off the ground (about six inches).

Termites can be a major problem for any homeowner; they can eat away at your house. One way to prevent them from getting in is by using sealant in your basement. This is a prime spot for them to enter. The best part is that sealant is not expensive and is easy to put on yourself.

There are many do it yourself options when it comes to pest control. First, asses how serious your pest problem is and figure out what kind of products you need to buy to deal with the problem. Most pest control products can be bought at a supermarket though more heavy duty products can be bought elsewhere.

Outdoor lights attract bugs. Don't put exterior lighting right next to the entrance of your house. Yellow and orange lights can be effective for thwarting bugs.

They also carry and spread several diseases such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme's Disease. Use an insect repellent that includes DEET, if you are going into in an area of tall grass or a woody area.

Fire ants can be a real pest in your backyard! Discovering a fire ant mound in your yard can be dangerous, especially if you have little ones. Purchase some dry ice and place them on top of the fire ant mound. Make sure you are using protective gloves. This negative 110 degree solution can help kill the queen and the rest of those pesky ants.
