Cut strips of fabric:
35 cm (14 inches) by 6 cm (2.5 inches)
I made 72 roses to cover a styrofoam ball of 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter.

Fold them in half lengthwise and press with an iron.

Tie a knot at one end - that will be the "center" of the rose.

Apply hot glue as you fold the fabric around the knot.

Keep turning, and glueing into place.

Once in a while, twist the fabric. It will give each rose a more uneven, unique look.

Keep turning, folding, glueing and once in while twisting.

Using straight pins, attach the roses to the styrofoam ball.
Sometimes I used 2 or even 3 pins per rose.

Materials needed:
strips of coordinating fabric
a styrofoam ball
a vase
a wooden dowel
straight pins
a glue gun
ribbon

Fold the strips in half and press

Roll into roses, twisting the strip frequently as you go and glueing into place as you roll

Use the straight pins to attach the roses to the styrofoam ball
