An Englewood man was arrested after he battered a woman and crushed her car when she couldn’t provide money to purchase drugs.

The victim said that Richard Hamilton, 36, drove her around to several gas stations in Charlotte County on September 10th. During the drive, he demanded that she find money to purchase drugs, which she was unable to do.

The following day, Hamilton took the woman to his place of employment, Kelly’s Stone, Sand & Boulders. Hamilton exited her truck but took the keys with him, trapping the woman without a way to leave.

After calling people to borrow money for drugs again, the woman’s phone died. Enraged, Hamilton strangled the victim.

Hamilton then drove both of them to another gas station. As the victim tried to leave her truck, Hamilton snatched her phone and purse and drove away, leaving the victim stranded at the station.

The woman was able to borrow a phone to call her family for a ride.

Then, she returned to Kelly’s Stone, Sand & Boulders, where she found Hamilton laughing hysterically. She watched as he used the bucket from an excavator to smash her truck.
