I will start with a confession, window screens are not very complex. In their simplest form there is a frame along the outside to hold the screen material tight, spline that holds the screen material to the frame and then the screen material itself. This is not rocket science and I am the first to admit that. However, there are a few things that can trip people up when it comes to purchasing window screens, so let's explore them:
 
Type of Frame
Window screen frame is made from aluminum so it does not rust or corrode. There are two basic types of frame, rolled frame and extruded frame. Rolled frame starts out as a flat sheet of aluminum, that goes through a series a rollers to bend the aluminum into the shape of the frame. Rolled frame does have a seam, but it is not visible. Extruded aluminum frame is pressed through a template while hot and comes out as one solid piece with no seams. Extruded frame is thicker and also more expensive. Internal vs External Corners
