DOGECOIN Foundation Returns with Vitalik as Advisor

Elon Musk's spokesperson Jared Birchall and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin will serve as advisors to the newly resurrected Dogecoin Foundation, the main team behind the joke cryptocurrency announced exclusively to Decrypt in a statement released today.

“We are currently in talks with people in Liechtenstein to establish a long-term legal entity there,” said Dogecoin.

Jens Wiechers is a foundation board member. According to Ross Nicoll, a fellow board member and core developer who helped establish the Ethereum Foundation in Switzerland, Buterin provided "very helpful" guidance on the process. Since 2014, the foundation has operated as a non-profit in the United States, but Wiechers noted that recent developments around open source and the treatment of bitcoin organisations or charities had precluded the foundation from establishing a long-term presence in the United States. In contrast, Liechtenstein has remained "very crypto-friendly" and, as a member of the European Economic Area (EEA), would allow the foundation "freedom to interact with other European organisations."

In its manifesto published on Sunday, the Dogecoin Foundation announced its grandiose goal: to create "a money for the people." What the team wants is to make the cryptocurrency, which began as a joke, a viable payment method that can be used to buy a cup of coffee on a daily basis.

It was reported exclusively by Decrypt in May that Elon Musk has been guiding the team on how to achieve this aim since 2019. In order to do so, a legal foundation with a framework to hire the full-time staff needed is essential.

There are two primary goals of the Dogecoin Foundation: to establish a structure for hiring full-time professionals to work on the cryptocurrency, especially technologists, and to safeguard the Dogecoin brand name.
