Йипа сегодня отказалась есть.

Ее чашка стоит. Подошла, понюхала и легла на свою постель.

То, что даю с рук  ест. Воду пьет.

И все.

Начинаются переживания.

Пару дней назад, написав вот этот короткий пост, я имел в виду команду Portland Trail Blazers и то, что с ней происходит.

Я уже немного писал о том, что команда играет в этом сезоне очень неплохо. После половины сезона Portland Trail Blazers была на втором месте в очень сложной Восточной Конференции East Conference. И это несмотря на то, что команду уже давно начали преследовать травмы и потери игроков, вследствие этих травм. К примеру, уже игр 10, или больше, команда играет без своих основных больших игроков.

Сначала был потерян основной Центр команды Robin Lopez (перелом руки, кисть). Чуть позже с травмой плеча сел отдыхать его дублер Joel Freeland.

Portland Trail Blazers продолжала сезон, вплоть до начала этой недели. Две игры назад травму большого пальца руки получил основной и очень хороший игрок команды LaMarcus Aldridge.

Он покинул площадку в начале третьей двенадцатиминутки в игре с Phoenix Suns. Игру команда проиграла.

А потом болельщики, с надеждой. начали ожидать новостей от врачей, которые осматривали Ламаркуса. Первые новости были обнадеживающие. Рентген показал, что перелома нет. Два дня не было никаких новостей. Палец был опухший и MRI не показывал того, что хотели видеть врачи из-за большого отека после травмы.

Наконец, врачи увидели то что хотели и& было принято решение делать операцию. Как я понимаю, порвана связка на большом пальце.

Вот эта.

Весь процесс, вместе с операцией и реабилитацией должен был занять 6-8 недель. То есть, все это время команда должна была играть без своего лучшего игрока. В придачу ко всему этому, в предыдущей игре еще один основной игрок команды Nicolas Batum травмировал кисть руки. Точнее, он давно играл с травмированной кистью. Травмировал еще раз.

Для всех болельщиков команды (для меня тоже) это был последний штрих. После него я и написал тот пост. Команда проиграла четыре игры из последних пяти.

Сезон, который начался так хорошо, для команды можно было считать законченным.

Совсем неожиданно, за несколько часов до сегодняшней игры всех баскетбольных болельщиков Portland Trail Blazers потрясла новость. LaMarcus Aldridge решил отложить операцию и выйти сегодня на площадку. Попробовать.

Если получится, то операцию будут делать по окончании сезона.

Команда игру выиграла.

Speaking at a Moscow event in early October, Russian President Vladimir Putin sounded cocky about the sanctions imposed on his country by Washington and its European allies. The penalties, Putin said, were “utter silliness” that would only hurt Western businesses.

But now that Russia’s economy is rapidly imploding, with oil prices plunging and the ruble collapsing, Putin is the one feeling the pain. And the question already being debated in Washington is whether President Barack Obama’s strategy of economically sanctioning and isolating Russia deserves any credit.

“It’s hard to disaggregate out the independent effects of the sanctions from the bigger story. Obviously the driver is oil prices,” said Obama’s former ambassador to Moscow, Michael McFaul.

“That said, there is no doubt that sanctions raise uncertainty about the Russian economy. Their own minister of economic development said today that the ruble is falling faster than the macroeconomic indicators would suggest it should be,” McFaul added.

Republicans, who have long maligned Obama’s policy as too timid, were more skeptical. “I think it’s a pretty hard sell to say that the sanctions strategy on Russia is what is tanking the ruble right now,” said a senior congressional GOP aide.

“The impact of sanctions is absolutely marginal in this story,” added the aide.

Though the cause is disputed, no one disagrees that Putin’s economy is in crisis. On Tuesday, the Russian ruble fell nearly 6 percent in value — and is down by nearly half since Putin’s Oct. 2 comments. The price of oil, on which Putin’s economy relies, has plunged by about a third. Trying to stem the damage, Russia’s central bank has cranked up interest rates to a whopping 17 percent. Still, analysts see little relief ahead for a Russian economy in a spiral that recalls a 1998 crash that required massive international aid — and which rocked Moscow’s political leadership.

“We couldn’t imagine what’s happening in our worst nightmare even a year ago,” Sergey Shvetsov, a senior Russian central banking official, said in Moscow on Tuesday.

Even so, Obama remains cautious in his approach to the Russian leader. On Tuesday, the White House said Obama would sign new legislation passed by Congress authorizing additional sanctions on Moscow, along with military aid for Ukraine, despite his “concerns” that it could upset European allies nervous about a boomerang effect for their own economies. (Obama can waive the new sanctions, though administration officials would not say whether he will.)

And in public, Obama officials are humble about the role of sanctions imposed by the West since Putin’s annexation of Crimea in March. The crisis in Russia is “not due solely to sanctions,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Tuesday. “It’s more complicated and involves oil prices and general economic mismanagement in Russia.”

Privately, however, Obama officials and allies take clear satisfaction from Putin’s plight and are more willing to claim credit.

“We’re seeing a toxic cocktail for Putin and Putinism,” said a senior administration official. “The sanctions highlight the economic and geopolitical cost of the foreign policy choices that Putin has made. It has made clear that he is an unpredictable actor on the international stage, and markets react to that as much as governments do.”

While conceding the role of global oil prices and general “economic mismanagement” by Putin, the official said that sanctions have fueled a credit crunch as key Russian lenders find themselves cut off from foreign financing at a moment of stress for major Russian businesses.

“It took a little time … but if you look at the economic indicators in Russia now, it’s clear Putin miscalculated,” said a Senate Democratic aide.

Even as Putin’s economy reels, however, there is no sign that he is ready to cry uncle in eastern Ukraine, where Obama officials say Russia has conducted a low-intensity conflict for several months.

And some analysts say that’s why Obama shouldn’t take too much satisfaction yet. “If the purpose of the policy is to hurt Putin, then absolutely — Obama deserves credit,” said Ian Bremmer, president of the Eurasia Group. “But I think the purpose of the policy is to help the Ukrainians.”

The U.S. has demanded a withdrawal of Russian personnel and equipment and the closing of Ukraine’s border with Russia, among other things. But, said the administration official: “We’ve seen nothing on that front.”

Some analysts doubt that even an economic crisis will change Putin’s behavior in the near term. McFaul noted that, while downplaying the financial crisis, state-controlled Russian media has depicted it as “a Western plot — a plot to bring about regime change.”

In late November, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made the point explicitly: “The West doesn’t want to change Russia’s policies. They want a regime change,” Lavrov told a Moscow think tank, according to the pro-Kremlin English-language outlet RT. Lavrov made similar remarks on Tuesday.

Putin “fundamentally believes this is about undermining him. He doesn’t think it’s about eastern Ukraine,” McFaul said, making it unlikely that Putin will see a settlement in Ukraine as a way out. “I think we’re going to be in a prolonged stalemate,” McFaul said.

That’s why conservatives are urging Obama to deliver more arms to Ukraine. The bill Obama has agreed to sign provides $350 million for military equipment that includes anti-tank and anti-armor weapons, although it does not mandate their delivery and Obama may not actually send the arms.

“The question is whether Ukraine can raise the costs on Russia to where eventually the Russian leadership says, ‘it’s not worth it,’ ” said the congressional GOP aide. “And to be crass, I think that’s measured in how many Russian body bags are coming back from Ukraine.”

Ray Bradbury lived in his 1937 Cheviot Hills home for more than 50 years. After the author of Fahrenheit 4513 died in 2012, the house was readied for sale.

The home was filled with original details, such as built-in bookcases, that surrounded Bradbury for much of his life. The next owner could be proud to live with the echo of Bradbury, the beloved science fiction writer who advised both Walt Disney and NASA.

Or not.

The home, which was purchased in June for $1.765 million, is being demolished. A permit for demolition was issued Dec. 30, Curbed LA reports, and a fan who visited the house over the weekend found it in the process of being torn down.

At the request of friends whod heard the home was being destroyed, John King Tarpinian paid it a visit. In only one day half of the house was gone, he writes at the science fiction site File 770.com.

Tarpinian took photos of the shattered roof, half-demolished walls and former patio where a knocked-out door frames emptiness behind. As I was taking pictures locals were walking their dogs. They’d stop to observe and we’d converse, Tarpinian writes. One lady had no idea who had owned the house; she was new to the neighborhood. She walked away in tears. Another long time neighbor knew it was Ray’s home and we mutually agreed things like this are just wrong but money wins out. Another young couple had no idea who Ray was & the saddest encounter of all.

According to Curbed, Bradburys house was purchased by starchitect Thom Mayne, of the firm Morphosis, and his wife, Blythe Alison-Mayne.

Mayne, who is on the faculty at UCLA, is a winner of the Pritzker Prize. Bradbury, who typed Fahrenheit 4513 on a pay-as-you-go typewriter at the UCLA library, was presented with the National Medal of Arts in 2004.

Materials from Bradburys office, including file cabinets, papers and many of the authors books, have been donated to The Center for Ray Bradbury Studies in Indiana, which is seeking donations to re-create the authors home office as it appeared in the mid-1960s, when he was at the height of his power as a creative writer and cultural visionary.

Американская компания Russian Weapon Company, занимавшаяся импортом российского огнестрельного оружия производства концерна «Калашников», намерена в ближайшее время развернуть производство автоматов Калашникова на территории США. Как сообщает CNN, оно начнется во втором квартале 2015 года. Помимо автоматов в США будут выпускаться и гладкоствольные охотничьи карабины, ранее ввозившиеся из России.

По словам исполнительного директора RWC Томаса Маккроссина, поводом для такого шага стали американские санкции, запретившие ввоз на территорию США российского огнестрельного оружия. До введения санкций компания успела накопить на своих складах значительные запасы российского оружия, однако на долгое время их не хватит; спрос на продукцию «Калашникова» в США остается достаточно высоким.

С маркировкой Made in USA американская компания намерена производить автоматы, известные в США под обозначением АК-47. Такое оружие по лицензии и без в настоящее время выпускается в нескольких странах мира. Какие именно охотничьи карабины будут выпускаться в США, Маккроссин не уточнил. По его словам, в настоящее время компания RWC, которой принадлежит бренд Kalashnikov USA, занимается поиском площадки, где будет размещено производство.

В январе 2014 года концерн «Калашников» подписал с RWC эксклюзивный пятилетний контракт, предполагавший поставку гражданского огнестрельного оружия в США и Канаду. У меня такое ощущение, что еще немного, и Йипа  заговорит.

Вообще-то, как-то она и без этого обходится. Уж очень выразительно все она делает.

И,  очень ненавязчиво.

Сегодня ночью, к примеру. Обычно она всю ночь спит спокойно. А этой ночью, чувствую, вдруг, как к моей руке, очень осторожно, прикоснулось что-то холодно-влажное. Нос.

Сразу понятно. Нужно ее выводить. Вывел. И она не то чтобы очень сильно хотела& Перед тем, как выйти за дверь, она минуты четыре занималась питьем воды.

Думаю, вполне можно обойтись без слов, если хочешь кого-то понять.

Главное,  это желание понять этого кого-то.

Про американский футбол, который я не смотрю, потому что так и не научился понимать эту игру.

Но,  есть хорошая новость. Сегодня стало известно, что команда Seahawks второй год подряд вышла в финал Чемпионата NFL. В прошлом году они уже становились Чемпионами. Как здесь говорят, World Champions Чемпионами Мира.

Чего я так радуюсь?  спросите вы. Так,  соседи это. Это, если во-первых. А, во-вторых, у этой команды и у моей любимой команды в NBA  один и тот же владелец.

Так что,  это тоже наше!

Про экономику Украины&

At the warehouse of Modnakasta, one of Ukraines largest online retailers, the air hums with the lively chatter of workers and sound of hundreds of boxes being packed and sealed.

It sounds like success: clothing, footwear, household goods and bathroom items are all being loaded and then shipped throughout the country.

And indeed the companys owner, Andriy Logvin, says business has rocketed since it began four years ago.

But because of Ukraines deteriorating economy, he says that right now the company is just managing to keep its head above water. Business has doubled in the past year, but because of the drop in value of the national currency, the hryvnia, he is barely breaking even.

A vicious war is raging in the countrys east, where pro-Russian rebels are defying Kiev. The war has killed at least 5,000 civilians and combatants, laid waste to towns and cities and displaced hundreds of thousands.

And Ukraine is facing another potentially monumental crisis.

If Kiev does not find billions of dollars soon, experts and officials inside the country and abroad warn, it could experience an economic meltdown.

Mr Logvin is bracing for the worst.

In general, every big business is facing the new year hoping the economy will get better, at least in 2016, he says. Everybody is aware that 2015 will be a huge challenge, for everybody. This year Im not planning any positive scenarios at all.

For him, its a question of survival  yet he is positive. I think we are ready for the worst-case scenario. We will still be alive.

Coffers emptying

According to some estimates, the countrys economy shrank by more than 8% last year, driven in part by the loss of revenues from the war-torn Donbass region, where the countrys money-making coal and steel industries are based.

At the same time, Kiev is shelling out billions of dollars: to pay off its international loans, buy natural gas from Russia and prop up the hryvnia which, despite officials best efforts, has lost half its value since last year, and considerably more on the black market.

So the government has less and less hard currency.

В Портланде, в прошлом год назад было принято решение взыскать со всех налогоплательщиков города налог на художественные школы. Налог так и назывался Art Tax.

Сегодня выясняется, что некоторые предприимчвые граждане славного города Портланда решили на этом поживиться.

Portland, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The City of Portland is warning residents of a telephone scam involving the Arts Education and Access Income Tax.

The Revenue Division has reported several instances of phone scammers targeting Portland taxpayers by claiming to be employees of the IRS collecting the Arts Tax on behalf of the city.

However, the City of Portland has said the IRS is not collecting the Arts Tax on its behalf.

The City of Portland said in reference to the tax, it would not: 1) call to demand immediate payment; 2) call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a letter first; 3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes; 4) threaten legal action without prior written notification.

Taxpayers who believe they have received a fraudulent phone call are asked to take note of the telephone number and details regarding the call. To report instances of attempted fraud to the Revenue Division call 503-865-4ART (4278) or e-mail

The Arts Tax is due every year on April 15.

SAN FRANCISCO A security flaw could allow email and passwords to be intercepted from millions of Apples iPhones.

The flaw allows hackers to intercept and change email messages and login credentials on multiple Apple products.

Apple released a patch Friday for the security problem. Most phones, iPods and iPads will update automatically and the security hole will be closed.

The patch was issued for iPhones 4 and 5, the fifth generation iPod touch and the second generation iPad.

Computer writer Kim Komando sent an email blast Saturday advising Apple product users to follow these steps to install the patch:

on it, and then go to Software Update and then Install Now.

The website AppleInsider published a report Saturday saying Apple was working on a fix for OS X, the operating system on its computers.

Apple told Reuters on Saturday that a software update to protect Apple computers against hackers and spies who might try to exploit the flaw would be issued very soon.

The flaw exploits a vulnerability with security certificates signed by what are known as trusted certificate authorities.

Security certificates are a basic component of computer security. They are attachments to electronic messages that verify the user sending a message is who he or she says he is. They contain information about the certificate owner, including an internet address, when it can be used, how long it is valid for and where it lives on the web.

Most importantly, the certificates carry a code (called a hash) showing they have not been tampered with.

When connecting to a web site, the Apple device should check to make sure that the site is who and what it says it is, using the certificate.

However a missing bit of computer code meant the certificates were not checked.

That would allow a malicious hacker to perpetrate whats known as a Man in the Middle Attack. Here, someone uses a faked certificate of authority to fool the device into believe it is interacting with a trusted host.

That allows the Man in the Middle to intercept all the messages (including passwords) that go between a persons iPhone and a web site, for example.

A hacker exploiting that security flaw could use it to pretend he or she was the trusted website and then steal data such as credit card numbers the phone user was sending. It could also be used to install malicious software that would stay on the phone, secretly feeding information to the hackers long after the original attack was done.

Computer scientist Adam Langley said on his blog, This sort of subtle bug deep in the code is a nightmare. I believe that its just a mistake and I feel very bad for whomever might have slipped in an editor and created it.

Время все расставляет по местам. Шелуха, т. е. эмоция, отпадает, а зерно остается

С 1991 года латышам усиленно внушали, что все советское — плохое. Я, признаюсь, сам так думал до тех пор, пока не занял пост советника министра культуры, им тогда был Раймонд Паулс.

Я стал знакомиться с учебными пособиями, и оказалось, что за годы независимости Латвия не издала ничего! Все учебники латышского языка, литературы, словари — все из Советского Союза! Сравнивая с наследием советской Латвии, я увидел, что наши современные лингвисты, фольклористы, культурологи близко не могут подойти к тому, что делали их коллеги в СССР. А ведь это великая ценность. Так я понял, на каком высоком уровне в Союзе была латышская культура, ее уважали, давали свободу развития. Сегодня нашей культуры нет, ее заменили на евро-американскую.

&Люди тысячами покидают Латвию: дома для них нет, нет работы и веры в будущее. Для нашего маленького народа это трагедия. Когда-то мы летали в космос и пели песни на Лиго, теперь мы моем посуду в Лондоне и думаем, сможем ли прокормить хоть одного ребенка.

&Мне почти 40, я довольно известный музыкант и по опыту прожитых лет хочу сказать, что плохо — нет, очень плохо — что Советского Союза больше нет. Ценить потерянное начинаешь со временем и опытом, собственными глазами замечая всю полноту утраты.

French law enforcement continued searching for a woman linked to two of the men suspected in terror attacks that killed 17 people over three days.

Hayat Boumeddiene is the girlfriend of Amedy Coulibaly, who killed a police officer in Paris on Thursday, according to French law enforcement. A spokesman for the interior ministry said she wasnt present during the shooting.

Police killed Coulibaly, 32, the next day while raiding a kosher market where they say he had killed four people.

The Boko Haram group attacked Baga town on Wednesday, after over-running a military base there on Saturday, they said.

Almost the entire town had been torched and the militants were now raiding nearby areas, they added.

Boko Haram launched a military campaign in 2009 to create an Islamic state.

It has taken control of many towns and villages in north-eastern Nigeria in the last year.

The conflict has displaced at least 1.5 million people, while more than 2,000 were killed last year.

Rotting corpses

Nigerian lawmaker Maina Maaji Lawan said Boko Haram controlled 70% of Borno state, which is worst-affected by the insurgency.

Musa Alhaji Bukar, a senior government official in the area, said that fleeing residents told him that Baga, which had a population of about 10,000, was now virtually non-existent.

Это правда, что преступников, которые были в масках, нашли по паспортам, которые они случайно оставили в машине?

Это я к тому, что, к примеру, в США у многих людей вообще нет никаких паспортов, потому что они не являются предметом большой нужности.

Многие, те, кто не выезжает за границу США, вообще паспортами не обзаводятся. Пусть даже и проживут всю жизнь&
