ROADTRIP SCANIA, SWEDEN: Peninsulas, rocks and small towns

Среда, 28 Сентября 2011 г. 17:30 + в цитатник

View towards the small island Ven from hills near Landskrona.

Helsingborg skyline. The 2nd largest city of Scania (91 000 inhabitants). It is really the “metropolis of northwest Skåne”. 

Helsingör skyline with Kronborg castle.

The outskirts of Helsingborg.

HÖGANÄS:

With only 13 550 inhabitants Höganäs is one of the smallest incorporated cities in Skåne.

Despite it is considered a city and is located by the sea, it feels very small and dead.

For example there are only 1 or 2 small restaurants in the center and no department store, that is unusual even for towns in Sweden.

Höganäs Kyrka (Himmelsfärdskyrkan) at Kyrkplatsen. It was inaugurated in 1934. One of the few old buildings in Höganäs.

Centralgatan.

The 15-storey Jefasthuset from 2007 is the “skyscraper” of Höganäs, that is considered very controversial in the city because of its “extreme height”. 

Since most old buildings have been torn down, there are mostly uninspiring brick architecture in the city…

…but a few nice old buildings are left.

The beach of Höganäs have palms.

Höganäs keramik (cheramics) is world famous. The cheramics for Sydney Opera House for example was manufactured here.

Towards Mölle.

Kullen, a very rocky nature reserve.

“Warning for the steeps”

Kullens fyr, “the lighthouse of the hill”.

MÖLLE:

Populaton: 725.

Mölle is the small sea town/village located just beneath Kullen.

TOREKOV:

Population: 888

Torekov is the smaller “twin town” to Båstad. It is a very charmy, typical Swedish sea town/village and popular among tourists.

Torekovs kyrka. Its architecture reminds more of Spain then Sweden.

It was built in the middle of the 19th century.

Where are all the people?

In the harbour of course!

Hilly old time streets of Torekov.

The town hall of Torekov with an oldtimer Porsche.
HOVS HALLAR.

Hallandsåsen’s southernmost part, where it meets Bjärehalvön peninsula and the sea, between Torekov and Båstad. Hallar, an older Swedish name for “rocks”, have given its name to the region Halland.

The cliffs of Hovs hallar are 10-30m high.

Halmstad, the largest city of Halland, can be seen across the bay Skälderviken.

Hasses lada (barn), a nightclub for real Swedish rednecks (hope noone will be offended). It is advertising for a Christmas concert already in July!

This road is called “The Italian road” because it is so beautiful.

The Italian road.
BÅSTAD

At the end of the Italian road is not San Remo, but Båstad, considered the “Monaco of Sweden”. Population: 4 793. It is a very popular tourist destination summertime and is famous for its tennis games. It is the largest town of Bjärehalvön peninsula.

Båstad kyrka. A “hall church” from 1460.

The main square of Båstad.

Båstad is were many rich “brats” go summertime to waste huge amounts of money on alcohol. Some youths save all the year to spend their last money on expensive champain.

The small boat harbour of Båstad.

Many old cars, like this 50s PV, can be seen in Båstad.

The nature around Båstad is very hilly.

Köpmansgatan, the main street of Båstad.

Norrvikens trädgårdar (North bay’s gardens) is the name beautiful gardens just outside Båstad. It wasn’t open, but I would like to visit.
THE HILLS ABOVE BÅSTAD:

The hills just above Båstad is a stunning landscape with soaring views.

Exclusive villages.

Part of Båstad from above.

THE WAY BACK HOME TO MALMÖ:

Sunset near the small, but charmy village Viken.

Malmö fullmoon skyline seen from the coast town Bjärred, where I lived for a few years as a child.

Dominated by Turning Torso

A real night sky! End of first trip.
