★ THE MOANS / MOAN ★

★ 1967 With a new line-up, a new (shortened) name and under new management the band went into the Philips studio in october 1967, recording a song by Rodys-frontman Harry Rijnbergen, “Flowers everywhere”. Members were Sjoerd van der Duim, Rein Muntinga, Jaap van Eik, Alfons Haket and Rob van Waegeningh. Manager Wim Zomer got the band a lot of work but could not hold back bass-player Jaap van Eik when he was asked by his good friend Herman Brood to join Cuby & The Blizzards.
★ At the end of 1968 a new Moan arose when singer Arnie Treffers left the Arnhem-based group Palace for the band. New recordings were made: ”Chocolate Sue/ Drinkin’ too much beer. This formation played the Dutch beatmecca, The Amsterdam club Fantasio. Apart from their own repertoire the band they were also performing progressive work, playing songs of Pink Floyd, Moby Grape and The Doors.
★ On december 30, 1969 Moan did a gig at the legendary Hamburg Starclub, just a few months before it closed down. A couple of other singles followed but with no success at all. As a joke, singer Arnie Treffers and Alfons Haket, together with some other musicians recorded a rock ’n roll song under the name of Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers in 1971 with minor success. But one year later, there was a renewed interest in the band. It was decided then to perform as Moan together with Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers.
★ First Moan played 2 x 45 minutes, changed clothes and performed for one hour as Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers with the public almost nobody noticing they were actually looking at the same band !…..
★ On january 1, 1973 , due to the big succes of Long Tall Ernie, the band stopped performing as Moan.
★ Long Tall Ernie had lots of personell changes. Famous musicians who played in the band were Jan Rietman ( solo-artist/TV-host)) Henk Bruysten (became Hank The Knife from Hank The Knife & The Jets) and Carl Carlton (went to Vitesse).
