TV-Show: Skins
Who: Effy Stonem. The official website characterises her by placing the primary cast as "sugar and spice and all things nice" compared to "Tony's little sister and her shadowy ways. Effy rarely speaks in the first series, marking the eighth episode as the first, for which she describes how she feels towards others, in which she laments: « Sometimes I think I was born backwards... you know, come out of my mum the wrong way. I hear words go past me backwards. The people I should love, I hate, and the people I hate...» After expressing her feelings of misanthropy to Tony, however, her brother snidely remarks to her that she "doesn't fool [him]", suggesting that she is more vulnerable than what her guarded and apparent aloofness may lead others to believe. She also proves to be perceptive and sly, for which she mends both Tony and Michelle, and Sid and Cassie's romantic relationships, a task which seemed essentially hopeless. In the third series, for which Effy become a centric character, she has developed into something of a femme fatale. Despite Effy's usual composure, she soon becomes "off the rails" after her parents' split, and the love triangle created by herself between classmates Freddie Mclair and James Cook, for which she manages to sever their friendships and deny herself of a loving relationship. Her mother, Anthea Stonem, justifies Effy's behavior to JJ by saying, of Effy, that "showing her cards, scares her to death". On her official Skins page, Effy claims she is distantly related to the 17th century French aristocrat called Cecile DeLacroix, who was beheaded during the French Revolution. Her best friend is odd girl Pandora, who despite their differences, "gives the detached and cool Effy a heart"
