Arnold Lockshin exaggerates about his Social Security battles? About the US secret political police's plans to abduct and transport him back to the United States? To then subsequently torture and murder him? To declare dead Lockshin “crazy” and call his assassination a “suicide?”


NO EXAGGERATION WHATSOEVER!


That kind of vicious plot falls completely within the history and inhuman practices of United States imperialism, accentuated by fascist Donald Trump's accession to the presidency.

Contrary to the glamorous picture painted everyday on Russian television (and radio), the most brutal torture has a long history in the United States of America:


“Torture is inextricably linked to slavery... Torture was necessary to maintain slavery. It was integral to slavery. You cannot have slavery without some torture or the threat of torture; and you cannot have torture without slavery. You cannot imprison a free man for ever unless you have broken him; and you can only forcibly break a man's soul by torturing it out of him. Slavery dehumanizes; torture dehumanizes in exactly the same way. The torture of human beings who have no freedom and no recourse to the courts is slavery.” (Slavery and Torture, The Atlantic, Feb. 23, 2007)

Slavery and the slave trade were utterly massive in the US. Human slavery and the widespread commerce connected with it were the main source of the original accumulation of capital in the United States. Torture was a necessary and ubiquitous component of this grotesquely inhuman subjugation.

“Torture has always been a staple of U.S. military interventions, built into its very logic of imperial agendas.  A nation that has launched warfare dozens of times, repeatedly attacked civilian populations, destroyed entire societies, used weapons of mass destruction, and deployed massive armed force to crush popular movements around the world – killing millions and displacing tens of millions more in the process – could hardly be expected to shy away from smaller-scale criminality in its pursuit of Manifest Destiny.  Illegal detentions, denial of due process, kidnappings, assassinations, death-squad murders, and cruel interrogation techniques have long been just another valuable tool of imperial power.  U.S. exterminationist policies against Native Americans throughout the nineteenth century, involving widespread torture, served as a prelude to later barbarism in the Philippines, Mexico, the Pacific Theater in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Central America, and the Middle East.  Decades of Indian Wars brought not only the Sand Creek, Washita, and Wounded Knee massacres but unspeakable acts of everyday brutality: beatings, scalpings, mutiliations, sexual assaults, kidnappings, prisoner mistreatment, and shootings, often along with larger-scale attacks on civilian encampments.   Captives were often summarily executed, including women, children, and elderly.  Dwellings were routinely burned to the ground, food stores destroyed, ponies and buffalo slaughtered by the thousands.  Dying Indians were frequently tortured, killed, and mutilated.” (Torture: and American Legacy, Counterpunch June 17, 2009)

Current US President Donald Trump repeatedly campaigned for the expansion of torture by the US:

“Trump said he wants the U.S. to engage in much more aggressive interrogation techniques...” (Trump says torture works, supports more aggressive methods, ValleyCentral.com, Nov. 24, 2015)

“The president’s willingness to overlook, if not outwardly endorse, torture as a method of interrogation is disturbing, although largely unsurprising... During his 2016 presidential bid, Trump claimed that “torture works.” He referred to waterboarding as a “minor form” of torture and said that, as president, he would reinstate it along with other techniques that were 'a hell of a lot worse'... Trump has also justified the use of torture by military and intelligence officials by arguing that 'if it doesn’t work, they deserve it anyway...'” (Trump brazenly endorses the use of torture while defending CIA nominee, Think Progress, May 7, 2018)

In keeping with Trump's fascist ideology, his new CIA chief Gina Haskel is a professional torturer:

“In late October 2002, Haspel became a chief of base for a "black site" CIA torture prison located in Thailand... Haspel played a role in the destruction of 92 interrogation videotapes that showed the torture of detainees both at the black site she ran and other secret agency locations... On June 7, 2017, the ECCHR called on the Public Prosecutor General of Germany to issue an arrest warrant against Haspel over claims she oversaw the torture of terrorism suspects. The American Civil Liberties Union described Haspel as 'quite literally a war criminal.'" (Gina Haspel, Wikipedia)

“It is impossible to conclude anything but that Haspel committed war crimes of the gravest kind and then helped destroy the evidence of them. There is no defense under the law in which a war criminal can claim that he or she was merely following orders. And of course brutal torture continues under Trump (it never stopped!):
