management to believe that Kotova was part of the decision-making process on loans’
extension. I have no doubts that the EBRD wanted to get rid of Kotova, who was one
of the opinion leaders at the EBRD Board of Directors, standing in the way of President
Mirow’s ambition to re-direct the EBRD funds away from Russia to the more important
areas for the European Union, i.e. EU candidates and applicants (e.g. Turkey). But even
I did not expect that removing Kotova from her position was not enough for the EBRD.
EBRD needed a very vocal scandal, which tains the entire Russian business community,
since in the framework of the corporate and then criminal investigation potentially all
Russian EBRD clients (those, who had contacts with Kotove and even those who did not)
may be suspected of corruption. It is absurd to believe that the RF Director whose duty is
to help Russia receive as much financial support at possible, and who votes strictly upon
directives from authorities can, nevertheless, vote in favour or against Russian projects
depending on personal financial motives.

Brings. I did not become happy because I am being prosecuted. I am a normal person
and do not feel happiness due to this. Sometimes I feel despair that all moves so slowly.

But most of the time I feel that if I was always a happy person, I have no reasons to be
unable to overcome through a stress test, which comes over the way of any person during
his lifetime. And the stronger the person is, the harder the stress test which challenges
him. At least the investigation helped me to end up a lose-lose game: I was fighting for
the interests of Russia, when my fight was too petty for Russia, while at the same time
it was too irritating for the petty EBRD. I was challenged to stop this run and to think
about what I really want. I really want to write prose and I need my brain to be idle to do
