This is one of a pair of salt cellars made in Venice, Italy, about 1570. 

This cellar is in gilt bronze with silver embellishments. This cellar represents the figure of Venus, the Roman goddess of lov,e standing above the bowl for the salt and Tritons and sea-horses below.
