Dear Sir or Madam,
Please be aware that the United States Government does not have an
approved 2011 budget. The current government funding runs out on
Friday, April 8 at 24:00. Unless the Congress and the Executive Branch
agree on a budget, the government would have to shutdown due to a lapse
in funding. It would reopen once a new budget is approved.
In the event of a shutdown, embassies and consulates overseas will
reduce operations and perform only essential, national security-related
diplomatic functions, as well as those tasks involving the protection of
life and property. Among the operations that will cease are routine
passport and visa applications, email correspondences and telephone
services.
If you have an appointment scheduled for a routine U.S. Citizen services
or visa application please check our website at
http://germany.usembassy.gov/ prior to your travel to the consular
section to confirm whether we will in fact be open for routine business
after April 8.
Sincerely,
Correspondence and Information Unit
