It seems that Japanese musicians have finally remembered they have fans not only in Europe, America and Asia but in Russia as well. It’s becoming popular with them to give the very first concert of a world tour in Moscow. Following Miyavi and MUCC, members of a popular Japanese band Abingdon Boys School decided to start their journey around Europe with visiting their fans in cold Russia.
The 3rd of November became a really hot day for Russian fans of Japanese music despite the temperature far below zero. That was the day of ABS coming to Russia! Some people know the leader of ABS Takanori Nishikawa as the author of original soundtracks for many popular anime series. Others appreciate his splendid vocal and heartfelt lyrics which captivate you from the very first listening.
The most devoted fans came to the venue at 6 a.m. in order to meet the favorite band among the first though the event started only at 8 p.m. But such a long waiting didn’t frighten them at all. They sang songs (of course ABS’s), took photos and laughed – everyone was extremely cheerful.
At 7 p.m. the venue’s doors were opened wide and the crowd poured inside the club. Fans began to chant “ABS!” and “Takanori!” Unfortunately they had to do it for almost two hours because the band was late. Finally fans were fully rewarded for their tiresome waiting. The band appeared on the stage and the following two hours flashed in the twinkling of an eye. Every song was given an enthusiastic welcome whether it was stirring Valkyrie or melodious Nephilim. The crowd knew all the lyrics by heart and sang along with Nishikawa-san during the whole event. And it’s almost impossible to describe what was happening inside the venue during Howling and Kimi no Uta (the most popular songs among Russian fans). The audience seemed to go mad – screams filled every corner of the club, everyone was trying to reach out for Nishikawa-san.
But even the happiest events come to an end. So did the ABS’s first concert in Russia. Fans didn’t want the band to leave the stage. They thanked the band chanting their names. “Arigatou!” was heard everywhere. It seemed the musicians were really moved by such heartfelt gratitude. They bowed to the audience, shook hands and thanked the fans in three languages – Japanese, English and Russian (they managed to learn a few phrases before the concert). But the main language of that evening was the language of music which united the band and their fans.
People were leaving the venue with tears gleaming on the cheeks and the mixed feelings of bitterness because this miracle had finished, and overwhelming happiness that every fan had experienced that day. But we have a glimmer of hope of ABS’s returning as Nishikawa-san promised they would definitely come back to gladden Russian fans with new songs.
