However, for students from Nepal who might be unfamiliar with the UK educational system, studying in the UK can be overwhelming and confusing.

So, this comprehensive guide is designed to walk you through every step of the process, from selecting a university to requesting a visa, in detail. This guide will assist you in navigating the challenging world of studying in the UK, whether you are a high school student looking to pursue undergraduate studies or a postgraduate student seeking to further your education. Together, let's start this fascinating journey!

UK in a Nutshell:

  • British capital, London

  • A size of 93,630 km2.

  • Sterling (£) is the currency used.

  • 67,363,000 people live there.

  • English is the official language

  • Manchester, Birmingham, London, Oxford, Lincoln, Cambridge, Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Bristol, and Sunderland are among the major cities.

  • Education: There are currently more than 180 universities, 50 colleges, and 60 boarding schools in Britain, all of which accept international students.

What advantages do Nepali students have when they study in the UK?

With four of the top ten universities in the world and the second-highest number of Nobel Prize winners worldwide, the UK enjoys a stellar reputation abroad. Additionally, a wide variety of internationally renowned courses are offered by the UK's top universities, giving students a great head start on a successful career.

A bachelor's degree can be earned in the UK in just three to four years. For international students, a master's program typically lasts one to two years and lowers their educational and living expenses. Furthermore, international students can study in the UK for less money thanks to the scholarships, grants, and bursaries that UK institutions provide.

International students can work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and full-time during breaks, giving them a wide range of employment options. International students who are studying in the UK can work part-time, providing them with a unique and enriching experience.

A cultural encounter for Nepali students studying in the UK

Over 600,000 international students choose to study in the United Kingdom every year because of its distinguished academic history, flexible post-study visa regulations, and friendly locals.

However, many Nepalese students may be concerned about their difficulties as they travel, such as whether they will feel lonely or able to make friends.

Authentic Nepalese food may not be readily available in the UK, and Nepalese students may wonder if they will need to change their eating preferences.

The contrasting urban cultures

The UK student experience can vary depending on where your university is located. Many international students reside in cities like London, Coventry, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, making it relatively simple to meet new people. Finding food options and making friends are usually simple transitions for the Nepalese students studying in these major UK cities.

The "UK Council for International Student Affairs" (UKCISA), a council that supports international students and those who work with them, was established in 1968. UKCISA offers assistance to international students with immigration, fees, student support, cross-cultural orientation, and mental health education. Students can speak with a UKCISA volunteer for the most recent details on visa and immigration laws, student loans, tuition costs, and other facets of being a student.

Learn about English culture:

The chance to interact with students from various backgrounds and broaden your cultural horizons is excellent when studying in the UK. The advantages don't stop there, though.

You can gain a strong sense of identity and individuality from this exposure to various cultures, making it a worthwhile off-campus learning opportunity. By the end of your trip, you might even notice that the majority of your wardrobe consists of black or navy clothing.

Enjoy the weather in the UK:

The UK receives its fair share of precipitation, as is well known. Contrary to popular belief, there are times when it may be snowy or icy. In the UK, it rains and is generally gloomy. Having said that, there has been a discernible change in the climate recently, with the UK enjoying some pleasant summer weather. It's not entirely unexpected because this change in weather patterns has provided locals with a pleasant variety of weather!

Keele University was the first brand-new institution to be founded in the United Kingdom at the turn of the 20th century. Over 70% of Keele University's undergraduates choose the Dual Honors degree today, making it the institution that first offered it.

The University's 10,000 undergraduate students come from about 120 different countries, and almost all of them are able to study abroad for a semester at one of its 80 partner institutions.

Keele almost always ranks in the top three universities for student happiness. The 600-acre campus of Keele University is made up of parkland, lakes, and woods. The main draw on the property is Keele Hall, a Grade II listed building from the nineteenth century.

History

In 1949, Staffordshire, England's Keele University was established. Keele is halfway between Birmingham and Manchester, only a few miles from the urban areas of Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent, and 20 miles from the Peak District, a picturesque national park renowned for its natural beauty. It is regarded as the biggest campus in the nation and features a few notable buildings and a science park.

In the National Student Survey, Keele consistently ranks among the top ten universities in the UK, and its student union is among the top five in the country for a variety of available activities. Keele has been ranked among the top universities in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Keele provides an inviting environment for international students. Numerous cultural events are planned and celebrated throughout the year. In addition to two sports halls that meet national standards, the university also runs a climbing wall, a single-court gym, a wellness centre, and a dance studio. Cranfield University's History

Cranfield University, one of the leading engineering postgraduate research and educational institutes in the UK, was founded in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics. The Cranfield Campus was founded on a Royal Air Force base in Bedfordshire, England.

The university underwent numerous developments over the next two decades, with Roxbee Cox (Lord Kings Norton) serving as vice-chair and chair. It helped with aircraft research and design. The university broadened its scope by establishing the Cranfield University School of Management, as well as a manufacturing faculty.

The Royal Charter and degree-awarding powers were granted to the College of Aeronautics in 1969. It was also renamed the Cranfield Institute of Technology, elevating it to the level of a full-fledged university.

Silsoe College was formed by the merger of the Institute and the National College of Agricultural Engineering over the next nearly 20 years. In addition, the university collaborated with the Royal Military College of Science. Cranfield University was renamed after another amendment to the institute's Royal Charter was made in 1993. The UK university admitted its final batch of undergraduates in 2003 and became entirely post-graduate.

Cranfield has evolved into one of the UK's best post-graduate universities, with excellent taught and research programs available through the Aerospace School, Transport and Manufacturing School, Water School, Energy and Environment School, Management School, and Cranfield Defense & Security School.

The Cranfield campus is near Cranfield, Bedfordshire, and is part of the Cambridge-Milton Keynes-Oxford corridor. In addition to academic and research facilities, the campus has its own airport, hotels, recreational facilities, housing, and on-campus nurseries and preschools for students' families.

Britain Considers Raising Student Work Hour Limits | AHZ Associates

Пятница, 24 Февраля 2023 г. 12:15 (ссылка)

According to PIE News, the government of the United Kingdom is considering extending the amount of time that international students are permitted to work while attending university in order to meet the country's need for workers.

According to a statement in The Times, ministers intend to increase the work week limit from 20 hours to 40 hours. According to reports, the government is debating whether to increase it to 30 hours or eliminate it entirely.

Britain Considers Raising Student Work Hour Limits | AHZ Associates

Britain is considering increasing student work hours.

This proposal, which comes at a time when the minister is focusing on student work hour limits in the UK and ensuring the economy continues to grow, is closely aligned with the strategies of Canada and Australia.

The reports come in the same week that Home Secretary Suella Braverman proposed plans to reduce the time required to obtain a higher education in the Uk, route visa from the current two years to six months of post-study work. This indicates an apparent conflict between the two departments' proposed policies.

Another source told The Times that ministries were looking into "what else we can do to remove barriers and encourage students to work" in terms of working extended hours. This is one of several options for dealing with the growing number of job openings.

The United Kingdom is experiencing a labour shortage, which has been exacerbated by Brexit and increased levels of financial passivity as a result of the epidemic.

Because of the large number of vacant positions, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has stated that he intends to increase the size of the labour force to help combat inflation.

The Department of Work and Pensions is "considering a range of issues to combat inactivity," according to a spokesman for the department who spoke to The PIE on its behalf.

They stated that more information about this matter will be provided at the appropriate time and added, "We wouldn't comment on speculation before the Workforce Participation review is completed."

The reduction in the graduate path has been strongly criticized by university stakeholders and some members of Braverman's party.

Both the Departments of Education and International Trade are expected to oppose the proposal to reduce the time required to obtain a work visa after completing a course of study.

Former Home Secretary Priti Patel publicly expressed her support for the graduate route on Wednesday, saying she is a "big believer" in the program.

Last week, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for International Students wrote to ministers, urging them to "maximise" the potential of the UK's education exports sector by making a few changes.

The statement stated that the Home Office must engage in cross-departmental collaboration to "truly make the international education strategy a success," and that the Home Office has a "key role to play" in ensuring that the student visa system in the United Kingdom remains competitive with systems in other English-speaking markets.

According to another Times article, Braverman is likely to be sceptical of any measures that could make student visas more appealing to international applicants.

Furthermore, it was stated that the Home Office could use the idea of extending work time while studying as a bargaining chip in order to have other plans to limit the number of international students approved.

"Encouraging international students to work in restaurants while they study, but forcing them to return home as soon as they've graduated with degrees our economy desperately needs," he said.

Jamie Arrowsmith, Director of Universities UK International, commented on student work hour restrictions in the United Kingdom. At the same time that it is "good to see" that the UK government recognizes the skills and expertise that international students have to offer the UK economy, the organization is concerned about proposals to allow international students to work longer hours.

"We are concerned about allowing international students to work longer hours in addition to their studies," he said in a statement. "The proposal to allow international students to work longer hours concerns us."

"This could severely impact the well-being and learning experience of students if not properly thought through. "In other countries where restrictions have been lifted, student groups and universities have expressed serious concerns."

"If the government truly wants to ensure that the UK's nearly 680,000 international students in UK, can make the best possible contribution to our economy, they would be better advised to maintain a competitive post-study work offer and immediately recommit to the Graduate route - and to end recent speculation that it might be limited or removed entirely."

Allowing PhD students to stay and work in the UK for two or three years "provides the opportunity to apply their skills and learning," he added.

In an effort to alleviate labour shortages, both Australia and Canada abolished restrictions on the number of hours that international students were permitted to work in their respective countries in 2022.

The program was announced by Australia's Morrison administration in January 2022, with the explanation that it would address "significant employment shortages" while also attracting returning international students to study in the country.

Later that year, Australia's newly elected Labour government announced that the cap would be reinstated beginning in July 2023. The government's motivation for this decision was to achieve the "proper balance between job and study," and some have speculated that the measure may be to blame for an increase in "fake" student applications.

Furthermore, Canada has decided to extend certain work rights until November 2022 in order to assist industries that are currently experiencing a labour shortage.

Stakeholders in both countries are pleased with the "option and flexibility" that extended work hours provide to students, but they are concerned about the "potential to divert students from their academics" that this presents.

Среда, 08 Февраля 2023 г. 15:30 (ссылка)

4-Reasons-Employers-Prefer-Resumes-with-UK-Degrees (700x466, 31Kb)

The UK is one of the world’s most popular higher education destinations. The multicultural society is home to some of the world’s top educational institutions consistently performing well in global higher education rankings. After all, these internationally recognized universities offer top-quality education, ongoing research, and higher education opportunities.

And given the fantastic learning opportunities universities in the UK offer their students, the graduates from these universities are some of the most sought-after employees. After all, they receive extensive exposure and experience while studying at some of the world’s most renowned universities in the UK, which is why it doesn’t often come as a surprise that employers worldwide prefer resumes with UK degrees.

In what follows, we look at why employers prefer resumes with UK degrees. Suppose you are a student considering moving abroad for higher studies. In that case, this post will help you clarify why moving to the U.K. for higher education is a suitable stepping stone for your career ahead.

Let’s delve into four reasons employers prefer resumes with a UK degree.

1. Internationally Recognized, World-Class Educational Institutions

The universities in the U.K. are considered to be the best in the world. The proof lies in the fact that some of the universities in the U.K. have consistently performed well in the global rating for higher education. Moreover, the U.K. is home to nearly a fifth of the top 50 universities in the world.

Furthermore, the education system in the UK is such that it fosters critical thinking, analytical ability, and insightful analysis among international students. All these skills equip students to face real-life challenges with confidence.

Hence, any student who gets admission to such top-ranked universities, studies there, and develops all the skills deemed essential for a successful professional life will be a preferred candidate for any job.

2. Exceptional Quality of Learning and Research

The universities in the UK. Uphold exceptionally high standards of teaching, learning, and research that the British government establishes. Moreover, the government also invests a lot of resources to frequently inspect the quality of learning and research so the graduates these universities produce are equipped with the most updated and relevant knowledge and skill set.

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) maintains top-quality learning and research standards. Moreover, the Teaching Excellence Framework rates teaching at universities in the UK. Furthermore, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) grades all the research conducted at UK institutions. With such extensive quality control and monitoring, you will only get the best education from the most knowledgeable academics once you enroll in a degree program in the U.K.

Due to the exceptional quality of learning and research for international students, employers prefer graduates from U.K. universities, for they have been through one of the world’s finest education systems that are closely evaluated and updated with the latest global trends.

3. Enhanced Personal and Linguistic Abilities

English is considered a global language in business as people worldwide widely use it as a first or second language for communication. Since English originated in the U.K., students who study in the U.K. and graduate from a U.K. university gain a good command of the language, which can prove to be an asset for any organization. Hence, employers prefer potential employees with a U.K. degree as it also highlights that the individual has an excellent command of the English language.

However, while English is widely spoken in the U.K. and is the primary mode of communication, it’s not the only language that people gain command over when in the U.K. Most cities in the U.K. are multi-cultural and diversified, which provides all students (both local and international) an opportunity to gain command over new languages and dialects.

Hence, individuals who have studied in the U.K. and received a degree from there will have refined language abilities in various languages, which can be an asset for any organization as businesses today heavily depend on oral and written communications.

Moreover, since cross-cultural communication is becoming increasingly common, students who have a diversified language experience due to living in a multicultural country like the U.K. can be a valuable addition to any organization. Since most organizations are becoming increasingly global, employers prefer employees from multicultural backgrounds with the knowledge and ability to connect with people from other cultural backgrounds.

Furthermore, as we discuss linguistic abilities, let’s remember personal attributes. When young student reaches the U.K. for higher education, they may have a limited network. Some students may know no one, and they may have to work really hard to get out of their comfort zone to know people. The skill that most students develop as they push themselves hard to expand their social network can be quite valuable for an organization. Hiring employees who know how to get out of their comfort zone to interact with others prove to be an asset for an organization as they can serve as an agent who promotes their business across various platforms.

4. The U.K. Offers Various Opportunities for Students

Students who choose the U.K. for higher education get access to various work opportunities while studying there. Hence, by the time these students graduate, they already have some professional experience. Employers consider this working experience quite important, especially if you are an international student who came to the U.K. for higher education. It’s critical as in today’s competitive global market, employers now look for employees who have international experience.

If you are someone who has studied in the U.K. and has worked part-time, your education and experience will help your resume stand out of the crowd. A degree from the U.K. and any part-time experience will make your resume a preferred resume for any employer.

Key Takeaways About Resumes with UK Degrees

Suppose you want to work for a dynamic multicultural organization. In that case, a U.K. degree on your resume will undoubtedly be a huge advantage for employers who prefer resumes with U.K. degrees for various reasons. Studying in the U.K. ensures you go through a top-class, rigorous educational system that prepares you for the real-life challenges ahead. Moreover, since the U.K. is a culturally diverse country, it allows you to develop essential skills to connect with people from various cultural backgrounds.

Since organizations are becoming increasingly global, employers look forward to various skills, most of which are developed when you study in the U.K.

So why not get a professional degree from the U.K. and better prepare yourself for a great professional career ahead? If you’re exploring higher education opportunities in the U.K., get in touch with us and learn how to get started.

Everything You Should Know About Student Finance in the UK

Воскресенье, 10 Апреля 2022 г. 10:57 (ссылка)

Understanding student loans and student finance in the United Kingdom can be difficult, and finding everything you need to know in one place isn't always easy. When planning future plans, it's critical to understand your options, how you'll pay for your courses, and when you'll have to repay the money.

Student finance is a service provided by a student loans company in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, they give financial assistance to students entering higher education in the United Kingdom on behalf of the British government. According to GOV.UK, this support is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in the United Kingdom. This offer may include a tuition fee loan as well as a loan for living expenses. Furthermore, a tuition-price loan and a maintenance loan are two possible sources of financial aid.

History of Student Finance in UK

The Conservative administration established the Student Loan Company (SLC) in 1990/91. The organization was founded to assist students with low-interest loans to help them pay for their living expenses. Later, in 1997, the Labor administration implemented the Teaching and Higher Education Act, which covered university tuition fees for students. The Scottish government then opted to replace the annual tuition fees for Scottish students in January 2000. Following the Scottish Government, the Welsh government did the same.

Eligibility for Student Finance

Students must meet some criteria to become eligible for student finance. According to the Government of the UK, whether the students are qualified for the loan depends on:

  • Students’ university and college: The university or college must be recognized or listed by the UK government. As most universities or colleges are recognized by the government, so you don’t need to worry about it.

  • The course they have enrolled in: Your desired course must fall under the list of qualifying courses supplied by the government.

  • Whether they’ve studied a higher education course before or not: If you have previously enrolled in any course but had to drop out for any valid reason, it may have the eligibility to get some funding again.

  • Age of the students: If your age is 60 or above, you can still get partial funding.

  • Their nationality or residency status: Generally, students are eligible to receive student loans if they hold UK citizenship and normally live in the UK.

If the students study full time or part-time, they may be eligible for student finance if their degree is in the UK and one of the following:

Student Finance in the UK

Student financing is government money that you can apply for to pay your university tuition fees and living expenses while studying in the United Kingdom. If approved, the loan will pay all of the student's university expenses, which will be paid directly to the university. This student finance UK 2022, according to UCAS, covers some significant university expenditures for students (lectures, seminars, and tutorials, course administration costs, access to the course-related workshops and various departmental facilities, etc.). Furthermore, student finance supports some essential university-provided services for students' professional development. The loan does not include library printing, photocopying, optional field trips, textbooks and other course materials, or participation in clubs and social events. Let's take a look at the student loan situation in England:

1. Tuition Fees:

If a full-time student meets the requirements for student finance in the United Kingdom, they are eligible for a loan covering the entire tuition fee. Tuition fees are set by universities or colleges, and the Student Loan Company (SLC) sends the tuition fees directly to the university, where you will see the money. Full-time students in the United Kingdom can receive up to £9250. Accelerated degree students, on the other hand, can receive up to £11100. Students must also supply information about their family's income and the start date of their education. At the start of each semester, students will receive funds straight into their bank accounts.

However, there's a chance you won't get the full amount, so you'll need to find alternative ways to cover the rest of your living expenses. Part-time work, local government help, scholarships, and family support can all be used to manage cash.

2. Maintenance Loan:

The maintenance loan is one of the main sources of money for students while at university, according to the National Student Money Survey. This loan is also funded by the government and is meant to assist you in meeting your living expenses while attending university. This financing also covers all of your necessities. Rent, bills, food, a night out, and so on. The maintenance loan, like the tuition price loan, is deposited into students' bank accounts. Students can receive the funds over the course of a year in three payments. For example, one at the start of each semester (except for Scotland).

3. Maintenance Grant:

A special support award is often known as a maintenance grant. You may be able to access support for accommodation or other living costs if the students are from Northern Ireland and are enrolled in a full-time higher education study in the UK. If your family's income is less than £19203, you may be eligible for up to £3475 in benefits. The amount you receive from the Maintenance Grant and the Special Support Grant is also the same.

4. Travel Grants:

Students can get a grant to cover some of their travel expenses if they live in England and

  • You’re staying outside of England because of the requirement of your degree

  • You’re on a study or work placement through Turing Scheme or Erasmus

  • You’re a student of medicine or dental and staying outside of England as part of your placement

5. NHS Bursaries:

Whether you are eligible for NHS Bursaries is determined by when your degree will begin and what you will study. The NHS will cover your ordinary tuition fees if you meet the requirements and are eligible for the NHS Bursary. Your tuition costs will also be deposited straight into your university's bank account. Furthermore, the amount of money you get from the bursary is determined by your family's income (your own, your parents, and your spouse's). However, if you are not qualified for a bursary, you may still be able to obtain student funding.

6. Private Student Loan:

There are two types of Private Student Finance in the UK for prospective students. They are:

  • School Channel: Generally, the interest rate is pretty low here but it takes a long time to process. Also, this loan is certified by the schools.

  • Direct to Consumer: These loans are not certified by the school authority. Here the students provide enrollment confirmation to the lenders and te directly distributed to the students.

7. Postgraduate Student Loan:

Loans, studentships, bursaries, and grants are available to postgraduate students. If you plan to begin your master's degree in the United Kingdom, you can apply for a postgraduate student loan to help you pay for your tuition and living expenses. If your course begins on or after August 1, 2021, you might get up to £11570.

Repaying Student Loan

Tuition Fee Loans, Maintenance Loans, and Postgraduate Loans must all be paid back by the students. Other student loans, such as grants and bursaries, are not required to be paid back. Students may be required to return all loans if they leave their study early. Whether you're employed or self-employed, the procedure for repaying the money differs. If you're an employee, the amount you owe will be withheld from your pay along with tax and NI.

As there are a large number of universities in the UK, they have different requirements and deadlines. As a result, students need to be extra careful regarding the deadline for student finance in the UK. Students can talk to the universities or the funding organizations if they have any queries.
