Monty's minions are indeed instruments of his fiendish plans for retribution, but also they're pretty close to him and kind of a big dumb impromptu family. Here we have:

Tlaco: (pronounced TLAH-cow) Montys right hand mare and de facto second-in-command. Joined Montezuma instead of proceeding with her arranged marriage, which makes her dad big mad. Keeps Montezuma focused and their entire operation on track. Never hesitates to call Monty out when he's being an idiot. Highly intelligent, analytical, stern, and just a little bit unsettling with dem piercing anime glasses. Her cold, curt exterior makes most strangers write her off as uncaring, but Tlaco is secretly a very warm and considerate pony. She's just not great at expressing it. The weakest of the four, but would not hesitate to get into a fight to protect the others or Montezuma. Has never been seen without her shawl.

Xoco: (SHO-ko) Alpacas are not native to Mexico, but, y'know.....neither are horses. :/ Xoco is the practical joker of the group, always dispelling tension with a well-timed (but more commonly ill-timed) gag or prank. Some find her annoying, but underneath the clownish grin, Xoco is the most loyal friend anyone could have. The best storyteller in the group. Often tries to coax Itzcuin out of his shell. Of the group, she is the only one to openly sass and tease Montezuma. She is the strongest of the minions and often tasked with protecting Tlaco on recon missions. As alpacas are guard animals, Xoco instinctively protects her "herd", and is entirely unafraid (and even mocking) toward Smokescreen. She can also spit with astounding accuracy, Smoky has learned this the hard way.

Itzcuin: (Its-Kwin) The youngest adult of the group, and thus often dismissed as just a kid. Passionate, idealistic, and excitable, very easily flustered. A mamas boy. Often the butt of Xocos jokes. Has a biiiiig crush on Montezuma, wants nothing more than to prove himself and impress his boss. Unfortunately short-sighted and prone to accidents. Maintains a grudge (and slight fear) against Smokescreen, who once socked him in the face (tbf Smoky was trying to sock Montezuma in the face. Itzcuin leapt in the way).

Omacatl: (Oh-MAH-Ca-Till) The resident good guy of the group, acts as everyones big brother. Best friends with Xoco, more mature than her, but can often be lured into her shenanigans. Warm and friendly to all, rather popular. Fond of new recruit Itzcuin, often amused by Itzcuin's incompetence. A responsible and hard-working minion, but sees work as work and has a life outside being a henchpony. A talented musician and a bit of a goofball.


Some of the minions truly do work under Monty because they believe in his cause, but most are just there for the the pay and benefits (Monty offers dental!). Monty doesn't impose his ideology on them, but as he and the minions bond and start managing to succeed at missions, they naturally grow to admire their leader and start believing in his cause. The minions are not inherently wicked criminals, just average people not especially concerned with obeying the law, or at least the laws they perceive to be unjust.


Smoky: *in sign language* what do you mean your minions aren't the same minded as you and don't share your radical terrorist ideals


Monte: the fuck??? They're my employees, lots of them joined to support their families, and I'm not gonna force my own opinions on them. Does BonBon force you to listen to music she likes but you hate? No? Oh she lets you be your own person? Cool wow not so hard to imagine huh


As time goes by, and Smoky and Monty move from being murderous arch-enemies into almost-playful rivals, the relationship between Smoky and the minions relaxes from pants-shitting terror into the sort of casual vibe between co-workers. Yet more from Colbyr:

I 1000000% agree that Smokescreen would eventually start having issues with beating the minions up. I mean, Chicahua is always down for a game of foosball in the breakroom when Smoky finds himself there, and Sesasi just had a kid, and hes seen how much Montes employees love and care about him. How can he beat them up when he knows them as people? So he kind of tries to just. Not engage with them. The minions are under the assumption that its because they all know whod win if they fought (and its Smokescreen, of course), but its actually because he hates how guilty it makes him feel.

Smoky: kid, I don't think you jumping in would be considered 'help' to either side

Monte: I agree

Itzcuin, who can't understand sign language yet: what'd he say boss??

Monte: oh uhhh we don't wanna see u hurt kid, but thanks

later itzcuin is on his lunch break with the other minions like "boss and the agent sure like lengthy unnecessary homoerotic wrestling huh"

Other minions are like, yea, but we don't mention it bc every time we do boss throws a fit and gets so flushed Tlaco worries he might pass out. She's forbidden us from purposefully mentioning it to keep his heart healthy
