"Marras" is one of old Finnish words for death. In the past it's been connected to ill omens, souls of the dead, creatures of the underworld, corpses and terminally ill people, but the only context it's seen in modern times is in the Finnish name of November, "Marraskuu", which translates to "The Moon of Death".
After years and years of struggle, I come online again to proudly present: This. A Kiss. Commissioned by
Done with Adobe Photoshop CS6, 3 seconds, 42 frames, 14fps. If you feel the itch to ask: don't. It took me waaaaay too much time to complete this, for which I am truly sorry.
I decided to remove the patreon link from the pages and add names of those who help me with the graphic novel - Deathclaw and Vaati. Vaatiwithblue helps a lot with the text - he improved my script and grammar greatly! And there was no "Sleepy Lake" withoutDeathclaw, since the story is based on his roleplay. He has been my main inspiration, my muse for a long time and, to be honest, I started writing and drawing the novel not only because the idea seemed awesome to me, but also because it was HIS idea. So, I think it's fair to add their names to the pages ^^

"Now that she's gone, would you two be darlings and follow suit? I don't want to drag this out more than it already has. Remember children, don't take too long. " - Betzen "It's the least we can do. I'm very sorry for the way I acted, I hope you can forgive me matron." - Alina "I couldn't fathom it, she couldn't have meant what said. Did Alina even knew what that meant? Alina was furious when Betzen suggested to be called a mother figure, and yet here Alina had called her just that! There must be more meanings to that word, but the way it was said caught me off-guard. After what almost happend to her, it had hit me - Alina knew it was useless to resist."
Tengus ()Ч) are one of my favorite Japanese yokai in Japanese folkore. I find them oddly romantic, because they could be both good and bad. Another personal reasons is because I like crows.
Tengu however aren't always crows, they are ofthen depicted as other bird like creatures. They are shape shifters that can transform into humans. As yokais, they tricked people, kidnapped children, and Buddhist priests who misused their knowledge of Buddhism. Their follklore most likely told a lesson like aesop's fable. The Sojobo, the King of Tengus, are thought to be good swords man and martial arts artist, and passed their knowledge to their clan.
Tengu's name translates to "Heavenly dog," which is confusing because they are bird like creatures with human body. Depending on which parts of Japan, they can either have a bird beak or long nose, and variation of wings. The origin of Tengu subjective, since Buddhism has a wide range of gods. The possible origin might be from the Hindu god, Garuda, who has wings on his back, and is known to carry out Dharma (the law) to protect the Sutra (knowledge of Buddhism). The name "Tengu" might have carried over from China when Buddhism arrived in Japan 16-17AD.
Modern days, Tengus have deviated away from their Yokai or demon attributes, and gained a protector title. They are deities that offers protection to humans, mountains, and forest. To learn more about Tengus click this link: link
--------About the art:-------- As a kid, I was facinated by all these myths and folklore, and wished to knowmore about the hisotry and tales behind each character. But I think after too many questions to my grandfather about "why" or "how" it eventually just end up being "just because!" Still, there's a nostalgia when you hear grandparents telling you folklores, and I love it.
This is my current art project. I'm working on a new art book of Asian mythologies. After The Color of the Fox art, I wanted to portray more of these asian dieties or sprits with respect and understanding of culture. In hope of sharing cultures and history, in a modern way. By creating this, I hope they become a guide for people.
If you know any good tales of Tengus, please write one below! If you know any interesting mytholgoies or gods, send a link. Let's cross cultures.

facebook | tumblr| youtube | twitter | print store Lately, music has really been inspiring my work. I made this piece a while back on one of those pointless late nights when you just feel like being alone. It was one of those nights where I was up late, listening to this song I found and fell in love with, replaying it tirelessly over and over. I remember I was scrolling through tumblr, and I came across this photo while listening to Gabrielle Aplin's, "Home", and it just clicked in my mind.
"Cause they say home, is where your heart is set in stone Is where you go when you're alone Is where you go to rest your bones"
The song is about the definition and meaning of home, respective to each person. The sense of belonging to someplace, somewhere, or something important, that we've all got to search and look for a place we can call home. With everything that's been going on, I found the lyrics of the song so enchanting and strangely reassuring. I guess it was me finding a sort of comfort in knowing that everybody faces their own journeys to find something that they can belong to or find meaning in, "Home".
