The Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira (1397-1450), belonged to the former medieval monastery. It is the result of a gothic reconstruction. It is the richest example of the Gothic throughout northern Portugal. Between 1450-1515 suffered important transformations at the headboard, which later in the century. XVII was enlarged. At that time the Sineira tower was built. The most relief intervention, which was not finished, was that of the placement of a broken arch window of 3 archivolts with an annement stone historized frame, the offer of King D.Jo~ao I, for victory in the battle of Aljubarrota.

The Padr~ao do Salado is a Medieval monument in the city of Guimar~aes in north west Portugal. It is located in Largo da Oliveira, just outside the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira and the interesting Alberto Sampaio Museum. The Padr~ao do Salado was constructed in the 14th century to commemorate the Battle of Salado of 1340. In this battle in the south of Spain, combined Spanish and Portuguese forces defeated a larger army of Muslim invaders from North Africa and Muslim forces from Grenada. The Christian armies were led by King Afonso IV of Portugal and King Alfonso XI of Castile. Opposing them were armies led by Sultan Abu al-Hasan 'Ali of the Marinid dynasty and Yusuf I of Granada. It was classified as a National Monument in 1910.

The Square of the Oliveira owes its name to a secular olive tree planted in this place. Surrounded by picturesque houses typically northerns, it is the ideal starting point to walk the streets of the city. But on the wide, there are a few reasons for interest to see: on the spring side, a curious gothic templete erected in the reign of D. Afonso IV, celebrates the battle of the salad, where Portuguese and Castilians won the forces of the Moorish kingdom of Granada 1340.
