Ali Qapu palace in naghshe jahan square Isfahan city Enormous porch (4th and 5th building phases of Ali Qapou) Enormous porch built by column was constructed to make huge space in front of the square in which the below space was first built by rooms located in both sides of the aisle to make the porch look greater. Then it's wooden covered roof was built on wooden columns. In the middle of the porch, it can be seen a pool covered with coppery sheets and to irrigate this pool, a small tower was built in the northern side of cubic formed edifice in which the water was released to the pool by coppery pipes. Jean Chardin wrote in his itinerary :"To raise the water from below part of this tower to upper part, pieces of inhale and exhale equipment were used. Along with creating the columned porch, another set of steps was built in southern side and just beside the edifice. These stairs have wide dimensions so going upstairs is much easier than spiral staircase built in previous levels.

Aberdour Castle is one of the oldest surviving stone-built castles in Scotland. It started out as a two-storey hall-house in the mid-1100s and was expanded over several centuries. It was a residence for three noble families, including a Regent of Scotland. The terraces, walled gardens and an orchard were added during the 16th century.
