A view of lovely golden larches growing high below the talus slopes above the two Crater Lakes in the Sawtooth Ridge area of the North Cascades near Methow, Washington. This basin includes upper & lower Crater Lake, which both are adorned with spectacular fall colors along the lakeshore. This view is just above the upper Crater Lake.

Twice a year, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) releases water from Lake Nockamixon into Tohickon Creek. This brings white-water boating enthusiasts to the river to enjoy the whitewater. This photo shows where the water is released, although this is towards the end of the event and therefore the water has already slowed down significantly.

A view along the main road through Lava Beds National Monument near Tulelake, California. The Caldwell Fire began from a lightning storm on July 22, 2020 & became the largest fire in California during the early part of the fire season. It scorched 80,859 acres & burned through 70% of the monument, though no structures burned. This view near Gillem Camp shows the perimeter of the burn as it creeps up the top of Gillem Bluff. Towards the south end of the monument, there is more juniper & ponderosa forest, some areas that got heavily burned. On the other side of the road that fire burned alongside the road through much of the monument.

Cheese Cave is a lava tube located outside of Trout Lake, Washington. It is approximately 2,060' feet in length with very high ceilings, easy walking, & original features. The cave has two natural openings, the south entrance which is accessible via a ladder & a north stairwell entrance to which a private a-frame structure sits directly on top. The cave was discovered by Joseph Arnie in 1894 & was used by Homer Spence, who founded the Guler Cheese Company for storing & aging Roquefort cheese due to its constant 42*F temperature. The operations went from 1930s to 1950s. This view is the breakdown from the south entrance - I arrived at this spot & was not expecting such a beautiful sunbeam shining into the darkness, one of my favorite sights to see in lava tubes. Here from this vantage one can see the dust particles lit up from the beam of light descending about 30 feet down. High ceilings & excellent floor w/ minimal breakdown collapse.
