Germany's 3rd oldest suspension bridge from 1896 in Langenargen, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. The 72m long bridge spans the river Argen and connects the townships Kressbronn and Langenargen. Since its restoration from 1982 to 1983, the bridge is open to pedestrians and cyclists only.

Gigapixel view from the summit of "Lynch Peak" (elev. 7280') in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness north of Roslyn, Washington.  The peak is not prolific in height compared to neighboring peaks however it has a fantastic view towards Mount Daniel, Lynch Glacier, & Pea Soup Lake.  The lake is a lovely blue color due to rock flour coming off the Lynch Glacier, though it may have been more of a pea color when the glacier replaced the lake.  Moraines indicate that glacier at one time covered over the entire lake & spread over both exits in two lobes, but now it has completely separated from the lake since at least 1985.  Views also of Daniel Glacier, Mount Stuart, Mount Hinman, Granite Mountain, & nearby "Dip Top Peak", plus some other interesting colored tarns.  Views north extend towards distant Glacier Peak & Mt. Baker w/ a small alpine glacier remnant tucked below which feeds into the lovely Jade Lake below.  With a lack of daylight, I wasn't able to tackle nearby Dip Top Peak & the approach via Dip Top Gap wouldn't have been the easiest from where I was. The history of Livraria Lello e Irm~ao goes back to 1869, the year when Ernesto Chardron's International Bookstore was founded in Rua dos Cl'erigos. After Chardron's unexpected death at the age of 45, the publishing house was sold to Lugan & Genelioux Sucessores. In 1894 Mathieux Lugan sold Livraria Chardron to Jos'e Pinto de Sousa Lello, who then owned a bookstore on Rua do Almada. Associated with his brother, Ant'onio Lello, they keep Livraria Chardron, under the name Jos'e Pinto de Sousa Lello & Irm~ao, until 1919, the year in which the name of the company changes to Lello & Irm~ao Lda. The current neo-Gothic style building , and designed by Engo Xavier Esteves (Ilhavo 1864-1944) was inaugurated in 1906, with the presence on the opening day of, among others, Guerra Junqueiro, Jos'e Leite de Vasconcelos and Afonso Costa. In 2008, the English newspaper The Guardian considered it the third most beautiful bookstore in the world. In 2011 Lonely Planet publisher considered it the third best bookstore in the world, and CNN in 2014 considered it the most beautiful bookstore in the world. upper floor.

It is the largest urban park in the country, with an area of 83 hectares of green areas extending to the Atlantic, a rare feature worldwide, Designed by Landscape Architect Sid'onio Pardal, it was opened in 1993 and completed in 2002. In its landscape design uses many traditional techniques of rural construction, which gives the park a timeless, naturalistic expression. This was the last of 3 constructive phases of the Park, and coincided with the Porto Capital da Cultura 2001 event

The history of Casa de Serralves began in the early 1920s after Carlos Alberto Cabral (1895-1968), 2nd Count of Vizela, inherited his family's summer farm. A cultured and well-traveled man, he had an attraction for modernity and cosmopolitan living. The house has a north-south axis, which links it between Serralves street, its formal entrance facing that street, the central hall of the house, and the large dining room facing south and its open garden and good sunshine. . The other east-west axis is marked by the development of the growth of the house from the chapel, in the west direction, and with the living room facing the other open garden, parallel to the great avenue of large trees in the direction of Av.Gomes da Costa that would still be built in 1939. Some of the most important European names in the field of furniture design contributed to the interior of Casa de Serralves: Ruhlmann, Ren'e Lalique (1880-1945), Edgar Brandt (1880-1960), Ivan da Silva Bruhns (1881-1980), Jules Leleu (1883-1961), Jean Perzel (1892-1986) and Raymond Subes (1893-1970). In 1987, the Portuguese State acquired the property from the heirs of Delfim Ferreira with the intention of installing a museum of modern art. The House was opened to the public that same year, as a place for modern and contemporary art exhibitions until the opening, in 1999, of the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Serralves, designed by the architect 'Alvaro Siza Vieira. In 2004, Siza supervised the restoration of the House and its interiors. Providing spaces for exhibitions and projects by artists integrated in the program of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Casa de Serralves constitutes, due to its architecture and design, a museum in its own right.

The Serralves house is a unique example of a villa-garden complex with art deco architecture. Built during the interval between the two world wars 1925-1940, with great decorative rigor and quality of materials, which involved the most famous architects and decorators of that time, such as Marques da Silva, Charles Siclis, Emile Ruhlmann, Ren'e Lalique, Edgar Brandt and the pasiagista Jacques Gr'eber. The history of Casa de Serralves began in the early 1920s after Carlos Alberto Cabral (1895-1968), 2nd Count of Vizela, inherited his family's summer farm. Founded in 1258, the parish of Nevogilde (Lavygildus) belonged to the old Judge of Boucas (Matosinhos), according to inquiries ordered by D. Afonso III. Only at the end of the 19th century did this parish begin to integrate the city and municipality of Porto, through the construction of the Estrada da Circunvalac~ao on 21 November 1895. Nevogilde grew up between two small population niches: around the church and around a small port, that of Carreiros, which played a major role in the economic and social life of the parish and its surrounding area. This also served as a place for unloading goods and a landing point for many liberal soldiers during the Siege of Porto. Nevogilde is the land of the beach, of bathing, a place that the bourgeoisie has become accustomed to. This movement brought new business and modernity to the parish and it was thanks to the fashion of the baths that a community took root that, over the years, developed the area socially and economically, the British.

In the mid-19th century, the parish of Foz do Douro is integrated in the municipality of Porto. With the improvement of transport connections to the city of Porto, either by river or by land, Foz becomes the first seaside resort in Porto, due to the fashion of “baths” by medical recommendation. This period corresponds to a great urban development in this area: public gardens are created, roads are opened and countless houses are built, according to a type of holiday rental, some of them palatial, others adopting an image of a chalet, which we can still find today . The bathing character of this area will be reinforced in the 30s of the 20th century, when the great tourist promotion works of Foz are carried out, with the construction of Praca de Goncalves Zarco, the Esplanade do Molhe and the public promenade of the avenues of Montevideo and Brazil, including the pergola, the light source and several sculptural elements. Throughout that century, there was a replacement of the built front of Avenida do Brasil, which is being occupied by multi-family buildings with an average of 5 floors, this densification corresponding to the transformation of Foz into a permanent housing area in the city of Porto.

USA: Dynamited Cave [2]

Standing in the lower tunnel of Dynamited Cave near Trout Lake, Washington  I only explored about 400 feet of the cave to just past here where there is a 15' vertical pit.  Here one can see an incredible thin layer of rock spanning across the tunnel forming a natural bridge, cast with a dark shadow behind.  Many of the sections of the ceiling in this area are adorned with golden bacteria, better known as actinomycete bacteria.  From Oregon Grotto:   One of the longest caves in the Trout Lake area with many vertical drops and levels.  12,345 feet. Dynamited Cave was discovered in Spring, 1958, by Reno and Carl Ziegler, loggers with the Broughton Lumber Co. In Oct., 1958, early exploration began when Carl Nielsen, family members and friends entered the cave as far as the 15-ft drop. Sometime between Oct. 18 and Dec. 6, 1958, the most decisive event in this cave's history occurred when--after five local boys were unable to ascend a 40-ft pit they had dropped on a 3/8-inch rope--the entrance was dynamited, ending exploration of the cave until 1961. Dynamite was employed again in  late 1972 to destroy one of a series of  typically impotent gates, this one some distance inside the cave.    This widely popular cave is the most mapped cave in the Trout Lake area. Only moderately sinuous in plan view, it is highly complex in profile, having widely varying multiple levels and abrupt drops. At least ten drops exist within the cave, 6 in the lower sections, and 4 in the attic passage. No other major cave has been found upslope from Dynamited Cave, but the upslope collapse suggests that it should continue beyond due to its size at the point of collapse seal.   https://www.oregongrotto.com/troutlake.shtml

Liberty, Washington is a small unincorporated mining town in 1873, known as the oldest living ghost town in the state.  Crystalline gold was found in nearby Swauk Creek, leading to the towns formation, known initially as Williams Creek until 1892.  This view was taken at the newly constructed restrooms, which house some historical memorabilia.
