The Manueline cloister that we see today occupies the position of the first Roman cloister in 1228. Although it was designed by Boytac during the 1507-18 construction campaign, it was executed and completed in 1520 by the master Marcos Pires. It is a square-shaped cloister composed of 5 spans of arches supported on buttresses on the outside and mullets built into the interior walls, from which the ribs are pulled. An important feature of this cloister: in its four corners the vaults are made of starry crosses with combined arches (curved).

On the north wall we see a chapel from the middle of the 16th century, Renaissance, with double arch, vault of cradle with small boxes decorated with alternating flowers. Inside, an image of the Virgin that was sculpted by Jo~ao de Ru~ao for the central niche of the church facade in 1531. The 18th century (Baroque) tile panel that runs through the cloister galleries, and which addresses the theme of ventures and Parables of the preaching of Christ, framed in oval frames.

Hurricane Sally came ashore in the early hours of September 16, 2020 you are looking the view from my backyard. A large number of oak trees were blown down in my neighborhood in a couple cases landed on our cars. Luckily there were no serious injuries in my neighborhood.

Jesus Chapel with the tomb of D. Jo~ao de Noronha, designed by Jacques Boytac, but due to Boytac's move to North Africa and other works, it was built by the master Marcos Pires between 1518 and 1522. The vaults are ribbed and filled with the keys, some with vegetation, others with the Manueline royal symbols; armillary sphere and cross of christ. This cloister replaced the Romanico with the same configuration.

The chapter room is from the time of D. Manuel and prior D. Pedro Gavi~ao (1507-16), and occupies the space left by the roman chapter room. The project is by Master Boytac, and follows the same style as the nave, with high ceilings and ribbed vaults. The walls are covered with 1582 tile. The southern triumphal arch of the chapel dedicated to S. Teot'onio is at the top. The tomb of S. Teot'onio, who died in 1162, remained here until 1508. He was in the chapel of the Crucifix until 1530, returning here renewed.

Sacristy built in 1622. The authorship has been attributed to Pedro Nunes Tinoco, architect who attended the Pacos da Ribeira Class in Lisbon, where he studied with the Italian Architect Filipe Terzi. His projects are within the Italian line of the late renaissance, or mannerism. Rectangular plan, Vitruvian xyz geometric relationship, double height, with classic frieze by the perimeter of the top of the separation wall for the cradle vault with octagonal caisson. On the tops of the vault the traditional Mannerist triple windows in perfect arch, which we see in all Mannerist churches in Portugal. The great richness of this space resides in the general texturing of its surroundings (wall, openings, floor and ceiling), through the design of pilasters with relief, pediments interrupted with medallions, wall covering with “carpet” tiles of geometric design exploring the diagonals, the floor covering with stone of various colors and geometric design in harmony with the ceiling (octagon, and diamonds). Not to mention the quality of the paintings and sculptures framed in perfect stone compositions on the walls. The light that comes in through the upper windows has a dramatic effect on the visualization of all this textural richness, throughout the day, making us really feel, which is a quality Renaissance space.

Rectangular space with high ceilings (measured in plan and converted to Vitruvian measures, probably 2 x width 12p = 24p; the equivalent of 7.1m) arising from the construction of the mannerist sacristy, giving access to the staircase that served the upper floors. Here are kept vestments and liturgical implements, and the large canvas by Ant'onio Goncalves 1876 from the chancel. Relics were transferred from Flanders from the monastery of S.Marcos in 1595 to an emblematic space that existed in the cloister of Manga. These relics are said to have come to this chapel-reliquary in the 1630s. Of note is a silver reliquary with the skull of S. Teot'onio, and another with the relics of the five Martyrs of Morocco

Hurricane Sally came ashore in the early hours of September 16, 2020 Near naval base NAS Pensacola. Although the base was spared much of the flooding damage due to the sandy soil a large number of old oak trees were blown down all across the base. As you can see one of those trees landed smack dab in me and my neighbors backyard. We were lucky trees fell on other residents cars and houses in my area.

Single nave of great height and flat vaults supported by corbels. The Monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra was founded in 1131 by Arcediago D. Telo, with the protection of D. Afonso Henriques, The Monastery of Santa Cruz follows the rule of the Canons Ruling Saint Augustine. The Romanesque building was located outside the city walls, and its design would be a Church with a facade tower, with defensive skills. The work was developed between 1132-1223. Here, one of the best educational institutions in Portugal was developed, thanks to its vast library, supported by its active “scriptorium” (the place where monks who copied documents and created books) worked. It was here that Fernando Martins de Bulh~oes (Santo Ant'onio) studied.

Chapel of S. Miguel, Romanesque architecture. It was the place chosen to bury Chancellor Juli~ao Pais and his family. The cloister is a transition from Romanesque to Gothic. Built during the reign of D. Afonso II (1218-1223) it was however programmed since 1176. It would be D. Afonso II who would give a greater incentive to the construction of the Cloister because he intended that the remains of Chancellor Juli~ao Pais be deposited there.

Chapel of S. Nicolau. Tomb ark of Bishop D. Afonso de Castelo Branco, great patron of Coimbrian art and culture in the 17th century. Tomb of D.Sizenando, first governor of Coimbra after the Christian Reconquest on 9 July 1064. Sizenando was a great diplomat responsible for the peaceful coexistence of the Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities.

Via Latina it is called the elegant colonnade erected on the roof of the 16th century palace, at the time of the rectorate of D. Francisco de Lemos, at the end of the 18th century. In the middle, a body of apparatus stands out from the general line of the front, accessed by a noble staircase. It is formed by three high arches that support a triangular pediment with the national coat of arms, over which an allegorical figure from the University rises. This body includes a sculptural ensemble executed by Claude Laprade in 1701, in which one can admire the sculpted image of D. Jose I, already left by the hands of another artist, when the remodeling of Via Latina, at the time of the Pombaline Reformation. Two Atlanteans support a curved pediment and, at the base, can be seen two graceful female figures evoking Justice and the Fortress.

The Chapel of S. Miguel is located to the left of the Tower and replaced a small medieval oratory in the palace, probably from the 19th century. XII. The construction works of the building that we see today began in 1517, having ended this phase in the middle of the century, but in the centuries. XVII and XVIII new renovations will take place. The sixteenth century works were planned and directed by Marcos Pires, author of the wonderful portal (side door), one of the masterpieces of Manueline style with a naturalist character, between 1517 and 1521, with the finishing being in charge of Diogo de Castilho.

It was the Paco das Escolas that brought together, in 1544, all the faculties of the University of Coimbra, after the definitive installation of the University in this city, in 1537, putting an end to an itinerancy in the 14th century between Lisbon and Coimbra. On the left side of the facade extends the Col'egio de S. Pedro, a mannerist construction. Its main facade faces the interior courtyard, where the Baroque portal stands out, a work dating from 1713. From 1855, part of its facilities served as the residence of the various rectors.
