A view at the entrance of an ice cave near McCloud, California, most likely formed from an ancient eruption of Mt. Shasta. The cave is a series of three collapse pits w/ minimal connection however this is the main entrance w/ a short passage about 200 feet in length, mostly all stooping and crawling on sandy floors. There was a few ice stalagmites inside w/ probably more during the spring season. An old wooden sturdy ladder leads down to access through this tiny opening. These caves have been known as ice caves since before 1935.

A view at the entrance of a lava tube near McCloud, California, most likely formed from an ancient eruption of Mt. Shasta. The cave is a collapse pit with two ways to go, accessible by a bit of crawling. The northerly direction has a lot of breakdown & crawling, ultimately leading to a second skylight opening. The southern direction has ceilings up to 30 feet high & a mixture of breakdown & original passage w/ some occasional unique sand castle formations, nearly 1,000 feet in length as the ceiling drops down to the floor. These caves have been known as ice caves since before 1935.
