The former collegiate church of St Lubentius in the Limburg district of Dietkirchen on the west bank of the river Lahn was until the 13th century the most important church of the Lahngau and its successor territories. In the sacred building, the bones of St. Lubentius are kept as relics. Today St. Lubentius serves as a Catholic and the Trinity Chapel as the Protestant parish church of Dietkirchen. One of the many stops on my cycle ride along the ridge above the Valle de la Muerte near San Pedro de Atacama in Northern Chile. The bizare desert landscape gets a contrast of green thanks to the river that flows through it. Down in the valley the Quebrada del Diablo (the Devil's gorge) takes you many kilometers through the strange stone formations.

A lonely bicycle ride near San Pedro de Atacama in Northern Chile took me along this ridge with a fantastic view of the Valle de la Muerte. The bizare landscape seems to be out of this world and amazed me so much that I had to stop many times and even take two panoramas of this incredible place.

I have taken a panorama at Staldgaarden a building form early 17th century. Under the 2 world war gestapo used the buildings as Headquarter for south denmark. Staldgaarden was known as "hell's forecourt" during the war.

Castle Pertenstein has survived more than 700 years of eventful history ever since. Under Barbara Lucia of Toerring-Stein, the estate rose in 1600 to a stately country castle with a thriving economy. Pertenstein was at this time Count's Hofmark with the right to exercise the lower jurisdiction. But already in the next generation it almost fell into ruin. In 1820, the Hofmark was converted into a second-class patrician community in Matzing / Pertenstein, from which the municipality of Matzing emerged in 1848. The current owner is S.E. Hans Veit IV Count zu Toerring-Jettenbach. He handed over his second-oldest family estate to the "Heimatbund Schloss Pertenstein" e.V. in Erbpacht for 99 years. Under the motto "New life in old walls", efforts are being made together to preserve, renovate and restore this important cultural monument. Today, Toerringer Castle has become a place of hospitality and culture worth visiting. The ensemble of the castle, the royal stables, the Tehentstadel and the circular hall provide the ideal setting for holding public and private events (such as weddings, corporate events, concerts and much more). The Cardo was the main street in Ancient Roman cities, running from north to south and lined with a row of columns on each side. The Cardo of Jerusalem begins at the Damascus Gate in the north and crosses the city southwards until the area of the Zion Gate. The Cardo is depicted in the Madaba Map, part of a floor mosaic dated to the 6th century AD that was discovered in a Byzantine church in Madaba, Jordan. The Madaba Map is a map of the Middle East, and contains the oldest surviving detailed cartographic depiction of Jerusalem. The northern section of the Cardo stretches from the Damascus Gate to David Street, and dates back to Roman times. The southern section stretches from this point to the length of the western side of the Jewish Quarter and was built in the Byzantine period, in the 6th century AD, continuing the Roman Cardo to its north. History Excavations in the Jewish Quarter, between Chabad Street and HaYehudim Street, have uncovered sections of the Byzantine Cardo extending intermittently for approximately 180 meters. The Cardo was comprised of a central lane, open to the sky, for the passage of carriages and animals, flanked on each side by colonnaded covered walkways for pedestrians. The road is paved with stone slabs and is 22.5 meters wide. In some sections of the Cardo, excavations revealed covered stalls and workshops that stood alongside the walkways. In the southern section of the Cardo, buildings from later periods were removed, revealing the Byzantine Cardo level. Some of the columns were restored, and today you can stroll through the Cardo just like the residents of Jerusalem used to in the 6th century AD. In the northern section of the Cardo, the bazaar built by the Crusaders in the 12th century was uncovered and restored to its function as a shopping area. While the shops there sell modern merchandise, they retain an aura of history.
