Dimethyltryptamine - or N, N - dimethyltryptamine, better known by the acronym DMT - is a hallucinogenic substance present in various fungi and plants, among which we remember:

  • The bark of Virola calophylla ;
  • The seeds of Anadenanthera peregrina and Mimosa hostilis ;
  • The leaves of Banisteriopsis rusbyana and Psychotria viridis .

Furthermore, dimethyltryptamine has even been identified in some animal species, including humans.

From the chemical point of view, dimethyltryptamine is a psychotomimetic compound belonging to the class of indolalkylamines , in particular to the subclass of N-alkyltryptamine .

History and Uses

As mentioned, DMT is a psychotomimetic compound with hallucinogenic activity. This molecule-or rather, the plants that contain it - was already used in ancient times by the Amazonian and South American peoples, during religious ceremonies. In other circumstances, plants containing dimethyltryptamine were used for medical purposes.

To date, the use of these plant species is still widespread among the aforementioned populations, who employ them during different types of shamanic rites. They buy DMT in order to get in touch with the world of spirits.

Furthermore, dimethyltryptamine is part of the composition of many South American tobaccos and drinks which, within them, also contain other indole compounds with hallucinogenic activity.

Mechanism of action

Once dimethyltryptamine enters the circulation, it reaches the central nervous system, where it carries out its hallucinogenic actions through the interaction with different types of receptors.

More specifically, DMT possesses a certain affinity for 5-HT1A, 5-HT2B, 5-HT2C, 5-HT6 and 5-HT7 serotonergic receptors .

In detail, dimethyltryptamine has been shown to exert a partial agonistic action against the 5-HT1A, 5-HT2B and 5-HT2C receptor forms.

In addition to this, it has been shown that DMT is also capable of interacting with the following receptors:

  • Α1 and α2 type adrenergic receptors;
  • D1 type dopaminergic receptors ;
  • Sigma -1 (σ-1) receptors.

In any case - as is the case with many other psychotomimetic compounds - it is believed that the hallucinogenic action of dimethyltryptamine is mainly attributable to its action on serotonergic receptors, in particular on 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C type receptors.

However, the possibility that the link with the other receptor types mentioned above also contributes to the hallucinogenic activity of this molecule.

Induced Effects

The effects of dimethyltryptamine - when inhaled or injected - arise very quickly (indicatively, in a time interval ranging from 45 seconds to 5 minutes) and gradually disappear within about half an hour. The short duration of DMT-induced hallucinogenic effects has earned her the name of " business travel (or LSD) in the United States ."

When you Buy DMT Online and take it orally - in association with monoamine oxidase inhibitors - the duration of the hallucinogenic experience achieved with dimethyltryptamine increases, up to three hours.

The psychic effects induced by DMT can vary from person to person. Individuals who take the molecule can therefore have different experiences, which are not always easy to describe.
