If you are going camping with your pets or children, you need to take a few extra precautions. Try to teach your kids the basics of camping safety. They need to know what to do if they get lost and should each have a small survival kit. Make sure you have leashes for any pets and make sure they are current with all vaccinations.
Collect more wood than you think you are going ot need. Unless you go camping every day, you probably don't have an accurate idea of what "enough wood" actually looks like. You can always leave the extra wood in a pile as a gift for anyone that uses the campsite after you.
If you will be camping somewhere that is very far away from civilization, then make sure you have told several people where you will be as well as how long you are intending to stay. Ask them to call you on the day you are supposed to return to ensure your safety.
Make sure that the cooler you are taking with you is air tight. You do not want your food to spoil because the cooler was allowing the cool air to get out. Store your cooler in a shaded area where the sun will not work against it. This could save your food and your stomach.
Find all of your equipment and start packing well in advance of your trip. You never want to forget something important, like a tent or your sleeping bag. Create a checklist if you feel like you are going to forget something.
Be prepared for your next camping adventure by taking precautions on conserving flashlight batteries. While searching your backpack or bag, it is not too hard to accidentally hit the power button on your flashlight. To prevent this from draining the batteries, store the batteries in the flashlight backwards until you need to use it. This prevents accidental switch nudges so that they will remain fresh when you need them.
