Cricket World Cup
It is also called the ICC Cricket World Cup because it is organized by the ICC, an international cricket council. It is an international cricket tournament where men's one-day cricket matches are held for over 50 years of age. Each team must pass the qualifying round to qualify for the quadrennial tournament, but the T20 is held every two years. It is the fourth most viewed international sports event in the world. The first cricket world cup was held in England in 1975, and the first T20 cricket world cup was held in South Africa in 2007. Twelve Cricket World Cups are being held until 2020, and as of 2020, the Australian cricket team has won the tournament five times, making it the most successful cricket team.
History
The first international cricket match was played between Canada and the United States on September 24 and 25, 1844. However, the first recognized test match was held between Australia and England in 1877, and the two teams competed regularly for the Ashes in subsequent years. South Africa was recognized as a test in 1889. Cricket teams were selected and toured with each other, leading to competition between the two countries. Cricket was also adopted as an Olympic sport at the 1900 Paris Games, where England beat France to win the gold medal. This was the only appearance in cricket at the Summer Olympics.

The first multilateral tournament at international level was the 1912 Triangle Tournament, a test cricket tournament held in England by all three countries playing test at the time: England, Australia and South Africa. The event was not a success: the summer was unusually rainy, making it difficult to play in a damp unexposed stadium, and the attendance of the crowd was low, due to the "overflow of crickets." Since then, international test cricket has generally been organized as a quantum series: the multilateral test tournament was not reorganized until the 1999 Triangle Asia Test Championship
Prudential World Cup (1975–1983)
The first Cricket World Cup was held by England in 1975, when it was the only country that could host events of that size. The 1975 tournament started on June 7. The first three events were held in the UK and are officially known as the Purgent Cup after its sponsor, Purgent plc. The match consisted of 60 six-ball overs per team, with players dressed in cricket white and using red cricket balls to play during the day.
Other Champions (1987-1996)
India and Pakistan jointly hosted the 1987 tournament, which was held outside the UK for the first time. The 1992 World Cup, held in Australia and New Zealand, introduced many changes to matches such as colored clothes, white balls, day/night games, and changes in defensive restrictions. The 1996 tournament was held for the second time in the Indian subcontinent, with Sri Lanka hosting the group stage matches. In the semifinals, Sri Lanka, which was headed for a landslide victory over India in Eden Gardens after losing eight wickets while the hosts chased 252 points and scored 120 points, was basically awarded a victory after crowd unrest erupted in protest of the Indian performance. Sri Lanka won their first championship by defeating Australia in the final in Lahore with seven wickets
Qualification
From the first World Cup in 1975 to the 2019 World Cup, the majority of participating teams automatically advanced to the finals. Until the 2015 World Cup, it was mostly about obtaining full ICC membership, and in the 2019 World Cup, it was mostly about winning the ICC ODI Championship standings.
Teams that automatically advanced to the finals from the 2nd World Cup in 1979 to the 2019 World Cup joined a small number of teams that advanced to the World Cup finals through preliminary rounds. The first qualifying tournament is the ICC Trophy, which then extends to the qualifying tournament. For the 2011 FIFA World Cup, the ICC World Cricket League replaced the existing qualification process, and the name "ICC Trophy" was changed to "ICC World Cup Qualification". The World Cricket League was a qualification scheme offered to allow more qualification opportunities for associate and affiliated members of the ICC. The number of teams that advanced to the preliminary round varied.
A tournament
The format of the Cricket World Cup has changed significantly over the course of history. The first four tournaments were played by eight teams each, and were divided into two groups of four teams. The tournament consisted of two stages: a group stage and a knockout stage. The four teams from each group played each other in the round robin group stage, and the top two teams from each group advanced to the semifinals. The winners of the semifinals faced each other in the final. With South Africa returning from their fifth tournament as a result of the 1992 apartheid boycott, nine teams faced each other once in the group stage, with the top four advancing to the semifinals. The tournament was expanded to two groups of six teams in 1996.The top four teams from each group advanced to the quarterfinals and semifinals.
A trophy
The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy is awarded to the winner of the world cup. The current trophy was created for the 1999 tournament and was the first permanent award in the tournament's history. Before this, different trophies were made for each World Cup.The trophy was designed and produced in London by a team of Garrard & Co's craftsmen over two months
Many tournaments have been held jointly by countries in the same geographic region, such as South Asia in 1987, 1996, 2011, Australia and New Zealand in 1992 and 2015, South Africa in 2003, and the West Indies in 2007
