The ARMD software package is capable of facilitating comprehensive evaluations of fluid-film bearings. 10. A fluid bearing system journalling a rotatable shaft, comprising a deformable journal sleeve surrounding said shaft, support means for supporting said sleeve about its outer circumference along three axial lines at least one of said support means being freely movable radially of said sleeve, means resiliently prestressing said one support means to deform said shell to create at least one wedge with respect to said shaft and supplying fluid to said wedge whereby on rOtation of said shaft said wedge displaces said fluid and causes the same to create a pressurized film layer continuously about the shaft, to cause said sleeve to overcome said prestressing.
The invention also has as an object a bearing, characterized by the fact that a first extremity of each leaf of a spring is secured to the casing and that a second extremity of each leaf of a spring exerts a force against a sheet directed toward the shaft.
It will accordingly be seen that an improved air-cushion and fluid film air bearing arrangement is provided that operates to produce a more evenly balanced supporting vertical guide & thrust bearing force across the undersurface of a member riding thereon, such as a transport belt used in horizontal belt vacuum filters, thereby reducing uneven belt wear.

There are the hard 'elastohydrodynamic' lubrication (H.E.H.L.) and soft 'elastohydrodynamic' lubrication (E.H.L.). For 'H.E.H.L.', a best example would be a ball on a flat surface, with load being applied on top of the ball, with the ball rolling on the flat surface.
The radial loads from the respective bearing pad 15 are transferred directly from the bearing pad 15 directly to the bearing housing 11 through the hardened insert 25. In such embodiment the supporting structure 20 further includes an interface block 26 interposed between the respective hardened insert 25 and the bearing housing 11 and includes the lateral surfaces 32, 33, 34, 35 on which respective anti-fretting layers 30 are provided.

3, an embodiment of a bearing according to the present invention may be seen comprising a support housing 2 inside of the casing 5. The support housing 2 permits keeping the force transmission pieces 1 in place between the sheets 3 and the leaf springs 41 resting by their extremity on the casing 5. In the example shown in FIG.
1. The fluid ports 56 of the ring assembly pass fluid directly to the squeeze film 61 through the annular stationary ring assembly 50. Just inside of the squeeze film cylinder are two annular fluid plenums 64 that receive fluid from fluid ports 62. Fluid in these plenums is contained by seals 66 and 68 that seat between the squeeze film cylinder and the spring support 20. These fluid plenums provide a reservoir of fluid that is supplied to a thin oil film 80 surrounding the journal bearing through fluid ports 70 in the spring support and the bearing sleeve.
