Expert Exercises For Stroke Patients

Среда, 17 Апреля 2019 г. 19:20 + в цитатник

A stroke by definition is when a blood clot interrupts blood flow to the brain, causing brain cells to die. 39 A recent systematic review of exercise in healthy adults 40 showed that cardiorespiratory training reduces BP, particularly among hypertensive participants (systolic BP, −8.3 mm Hg; 95% CI, −10.7 to exercise equipment for stroke patients −6.0; diastolic BP, −5.2 mm Hg; 95% CI, −6.8 to −3.4). Dynamic resistance training also has similar effects on BP but the most surprising finding is a greater effect of isometric (static) resistance training (systolic BP, −10.9 mm Hg; 95% CI, −14.5 to −7.4; diastolic BP, −6.2 mm Hg; 95% CI, −10.3 to −2.0).
The third set of goals after stroke rehabilitation is to facilitate the stroke survivor to develop and maintain an active lifestyle that meets recommended stroke physical activity and exercise guidelines for prevention of recurrent stroke and cardiac events, and to maintain or improve physical function.

Even though the results showed harder performance during the aquatic treadmill test, patients did not feel as if they were working harder, which shows the aquatic treadmill exercise is a viable way to improve stroke recovery faster without the added strain.
The panel consisted of 3 Melbourne-based senior clinician-researchers (a neurologist with more than 10 years' experience in clinical stroke care, a physiotherapist and an exercise physiologist, both with 20 years' experience in prescribing exercise to stroke rehabilitation inpatients) and 2 international senior clinician-researchers (a physiotherapist with more than 10 years' experience in exercise testing after stroke and a geriatrician with more than 20 years' experience in clinical stroke care who is a research leader in post-stroke exercise guidelines).
Whether at health resorts or at home, patients should always be under careful physician care to determine an appropriate and safe program for stroke recovery and exercise,” points out Ivan Ferran Director of Clinical Exercise at the Pritikin Longevity Center.

In particular, regular exercise (defined as physical activity that is planned, structured, and repetitive for the purpose of conditioning any part of the body) or physical activity (defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy expenditure beyond resting expenditure) is one such approach, reflected by the inverse relationship between CV health and physical activity.3 Unfortunately, most healthcare professionals have limited experience and guidance in exercise programming for this diverse and escalating patient population.
For example, patients classified as having 1 six-hour block of therapy received between 5 and 11 hours of PT during their rehabilitation stay with an average total time of 471.0 minutes (95% confidence interval, 458.0-483.9). We examined the content of PT sessions, however, for only the first 6 hours.
Each advance in a patient's skills and condition is a victory, and over time these small victories start to add up. For persons receiving rehabilitation services in an acute, subacute, skilled, LTAC or nursing home setting, the period of treatment often lasts from two to four weeks.
This group of patients was then further stratified according to their discharge scores on the FIM locomotion item: less than 4 or greater than or equal to 4. The PT sessions for these groups of patients were described in terms of the percentage of time spent in each activity during the first 3 hours of therapy.
