First a Health Warning!
If you are already listed on Google then resubmitting again to Google will NOT get your site listed any faster.
If you haven't already tried submitting your site, then the page to submit your site to can be found easily by searching for "google submit" into Google. Not surprisingly their page is top of the list!
However there are other ways to get your site picked up by Google.
One good way to get your site indexed quickly by Google is through links from websites that are themselves crawled regularly. By far the easiest and quickest method is to make use of the various directories on the internet. Google tends to check the higher ranking directories fairly regularly and new links from those sites are likely to get indexed.
There are free directories and there are paid subscription directories. It really is a case of you pay your money and you take your choice. Business directories in your particular area of business can be useful because Google likes relevancy when it is indexing you and your site should be highly relevant to a business directory for your line of business.
DMOZ, also known as the Open Directory, is probably one of the most important directories to get listed in if you are interested in good rankings from Google. It's not a quick way to get Google to take a look at you. In fact it can take weeks, even months to get listed in DMOZ. This is because every site submitted is reviewed in person by the category editor and it really depends how far down the queue you are.
One piece of advice, if you do plan to submit to DMOZ make sure you read the submission guidelines carefully and comply fully with what they ask.
Another good way to get Google to index your site is through writing articles and submitting them to the article submission sites. All of the article sites (the good ones at least) allow you to include a section called "About the Author" or "Author Resource". It's here that you can include a link back to your site.
Writing articles has a few other advantages. Other sites looking for content might pick up your article from the article sites and use it on their site. They have to use your "About the Author" section so you will get a free link back to your site. That's another chance for Google to find you. If your articles are relevant to your business then you will probably find they will push visitor traffic to your site as well.
So in summary, you can try submitting directly to Google but I think that either directories or writing articles will work as well if not better at getting you notice.

"I did what you said and I'm getting 100 visitors a day from Google. But they still aren't buying my product."
Never minding that some small businesses would be deliriously happy with 3000 addiitonal visitors a month - what do you do when the plan you had to increase your search engine traffic doesn't give you the results you want?
You re-evaluate your plan.
Did you target the right keyword? Are your pages ready to convert? How's your lead capture system? Do you even have one?
You'll need to ask yourself all these questions, and more, but before you even get to that, here's the thing that doesn't seem obvious, the thing you have to resolve before you can move forward.
There's some outside chance - way, way outside - that an increase in search engine traffic just isn't the right way to solve your traffic problem.
What's more likely is that you have made one of the following mistakes or oversights. Before you abandon hope, make sure that the reason for lack of conversions isn't one of the following reasons.
1. You're trying to generate more traffic than a particular keyword can provide.
There might not be ten thousand people online looking for how to make ropes out of cheese every day. If your area is obscure, find out how much of a traffic yield you can expect from search engines, get as much of it as you can, then move on.
2. It would work if you would do all the steps.
In every plan, you'll have to work on optimizing both your content and how it is found. There's just no two ways about it. Depending on your site and how it delivers its information, how frequently it does so, and how many sites are linking to it, and a host of other factors, whether you'll have to lean more on updating content or links will vary.
There's no cookie cutter solution, so do all the suggested steps for traffic success.
3. You don't have a plan.
You know what they say about a failure to plan. If you don't, trust me, it ain't good. Have a goal. If you don't know what to set it on, base it on an increase in revenue. Think backwards from the increase in buyers you would need to make the kind of money you'd like.
4. You're using the wrong plan.
Not every traffic generation method you can leverage for search engine traffic is good for every site or business.
While it's true that the proper blog configuration can turn your site into a search engine magnet, that isn't the only reason to blog, and it doesn't mean that just any platform is suited to your site.
By all means, don't stop blogging because no one is reading your blog - find out why and address that problem. It could be that they can't find it, but it could just as well be what you're writing about.
5- You bought into a sales pitch as a search engine traffic plan.
I'm not going to tell you that article marketing won't help your search engine traffic if executed correctly. I will, however, tell you that most people don't set it up to get the most benefit out of the process, and that it's not a search engine strategy in and of itself.
6. You're paying no attention to analytics, so you have no idea what changed and when.
Getting 100 visitors a day to a site that was getting none is a triumph. Getting 100 visitors a day from search engines to a site that used to get 1000 search engine visitors a day? Not so much.
You need, at bare minimum, a starting place to compare to, or else how do you know you've gotten anywhere?
7 - The traffic plan is fine. Your conversion plan isn't so hot though.
If Google sends you a million visitors and they land on a page full of huge banners, they'll just leave. Give every page a clear purpose, and make sure each one has the ability to get your visitors to buy, subscribe, join, or whatever you'd like them to do, right then or on another day.
Those are the seven most common ways that search engine traffic can leak back out of your site. Even if one of those doesn't solve your search engine traffic problem, if you take action on each applicable point, it will at least help you get more out of your existing traffic.

So you have a site concept developed that you are ready to start writing great content for.
So what's the next step?
It's time to develop your " master keyword list " which you will use to craft your WebPages. These are the words or phrases you would like to get ranked high in the search engine's for and get the free targeted traffic that this will bring to your website.
It is not enough to simply "pluck" words from the air and start writing your web pages. You need to carefully select which words and phrases to target.

Do you think a small business owner can compete with large companies who invest millions of dollars into their SEO strategies for highly competitive, high traffic keywords?
Obviously the answer is no but there is a bright side to the equation if you are willing to invest time into researching your keyword phrases carefully. You will want to choose "niche" keywords that offer a combination of high traffic and low competition.
This of course is easier said than done but it can be accomplished as long as you use some of the help that is available on the internet.
Here are a couple of first steps, tips and tools you can use to put together a list of niche keywords for the website topic that you have developed.
1. Keyword Brainstorming and Research
Think of throwing out a "wide net" here and try to write down as many keywords and phrases (consisting of 2-4 words) that are related to your Website Concept as you can.
Take each one of these words/phrases and visit: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
Type the first keyword phrase into the " Get suggestions for :" box and hit the search button.
This will return you a list of words and phrases that are similar to your keyword phrase and also provide you with the number of searches for each of these results on the Yahoo-Overture network for the month.
Copy all of the keyword phrases that you think best suit your site concept along with the search data into a text file or spreadsheet. Save this file as your " master keyword list ".
Note: Some of the results will be totally unrelated to your site concept you do not need to copy these into your "master keyword list".
Repeat this process for all of the keyword phrases that you initially brainstormed. By the end of this process you should have a "master keyword list" of several hundred or thousand words and phrases.
Google provides a free keyword research tool as well but does not provide the search statistics that Yahoo-Overture does. Augment your keyword list with any results that you find relevant using this tool. http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox
2. Refine Your Keyword List Part 1
You need to shorten your keyword list to a tightly targeted and highly profitable subset of your master keyword list. These are going to be the words you use when crafting your web pages for the search engines.
Start by performing searches for each keyword phrase in your master keyword list at: http://www.google.com
Google will tell you the total number of sites it has indexed for the keyword phrase that you are searching for. Copy this number into your master keyword list for each keyword phrase.
You will now have the data for the number of searches on the Yahoo-Overture network for the month and the number of competing websites for each keyword phrase in your list.
Think of these numbers as supply(websites) and demand(# of searches) . Finding the supply/demand number for each keyword phrase will help you decide which one's you want to target.
You will have to use your own judgement here depending on your goals and the amount of traffic you would like to generate. Make sure you have a nice mix high traffic and niche keyword phrases in your master keyword list.
It's not that useful to be ranked #1 for a keyword that only gets 5 searches a month. Similiarly, it is very hard to achieve high rankings for high traffic keyphrases because there is going to be a lot of competition.
Trim your keyword phrase list down to 50-100 entries and get ready for step 3.
3. Analyze the Competitor's Backlinks
There are 3 purposes to this analysis: analyzing whether a chosen keyword space is too competitive, identifying potential link partners (to be used in a later lesson), and to trim your "master keyword list" down to 15-20 keywords that have a reasonable level of competition.
To get started take the first term in your master keyword list and perform a search for it at: http://www.google.com

Note: we are only going to be interested in the "top 10" results for each keyword phrase since our goal is to get listed on the first page of results for our target keywords.

Our goal from this analysis is to find out how "established" your competition is in your chosen keyword marketplace. An analysis of the number of sites that link to your competitor should give you an initial indicator of how important their website is to the world. If a lot of websites are linking to your competitor they must be providing valuable content or a useful tool/service.
To find out who is linking to your competitor visit: http://www.uptimebot.com and enter the first domain from the Google Search results into uptimebot's search bar.
Uptimebot will then query all of the major search engine's and return a report showing the number of links the domain has pointing to it. A site with a lot of backlinks to it must be an information hub and therefore very important.
Perform this uptimebot search for all of the "top 10" competitors from your initial Google search results.
If you are finding that the sites in the search results have several 1000 backlinks to them you will know right away that you are going to have a hard time getting a high ranking for that keyword since a large number of links suggests that the site is already a well established information hub in that keyword marketplace.
Uptimebot also provides you with a link to the search results showing you the actual websites that are linking back to your competitor. Visit as many of these sites as you can and try to identify which ones have complimentary content to your site. You may want to consider contacting the owner's of those domains to request a link to your site.
4. Refine Your Keyword List Part 2
After performing this analysis for each keyword phrase in your master keyword list eliminate the keywords that you identify as having too much competition (i.e. too many well established "hubs"). We will use this list in the next lesson to start writing your first web page
Using these tips you should now be able to tell which market's you will be able to compete in and which one's already have too many established information hubs to make it worth your while. You will also have a list of "complimentary" websites that you may want to consider requesting links from in the future to help boost your website's "link popularity".

Google doesn't index every site at the same speed if website A adds a new page at the same time as website B this does not mean they will both be indexed at the same time. Why is this? In this article I will discuss why this happens and what you can do to be website A.
Let's start by discussing why Google indexes webpage's quicker than others. The reason Google will index a page from website A before website B is mostly due the frequency that you add new pages to your website. Gorilla SEO | Search Engine Survival Skills
Everyone with a web site wants to be in the #1 spot of the major search engines. With the constant changing of the search criteria, how can you avoid getting eaten by the competition?
The answer is to spread out your SEO efforts, or employ what I like to call Gorilla SEO. There are 4 basic steps I try to keep in mind whenever I am promoting my web sites
Step 1, Work with the search engines, I don't mean load up your pages with redundant keywords until no one can make heads or tails out of it. I mean find the keywords that are similar to the main word but slightly different. If "vitamin" is your key word, try words like nutrition, or supplements to build on. When you Google "vitamin" there are over 95,000,000 results, that is a lot of pages to beat out. On the other hand if you Google Supplements there are only 325,000 results. Much less crowded and much easier to get the search engines to notice you.
Step 2, work with the overall plan in mind for your site. When developing your traffic strategy, keep keyword optimization in mind. Do keyword research before you do anything else, then build your plan around the openings. This is gorilla SEO at its finest.
Step 3, Always keep your site fresh by adding content. This is easy if you have a Blog, but even if you have a traditional site, you can add content by adding pages or new products. Most web sites now have blogs for just this reason. The benefit is that it keeps the web crawlers coming back to update what you have done.
Step 4, develop a link building strategy. In order to increase the site ranking on the search engines you have to develop links to your site. There is any number of ways to do this. You can spend money buying links on popular sites, or you can employ one of my favorite gorilla SEO techniques. This is a little known way to build quality links to your web site, just leave relevant comments on public content. Articles (like this), blogs, forums are all excellent places to comment and build links to your site.
Set a goal for your self to comment at one article per day. It will get easier to do the more you do it and the links will start to add up.
Remember to keep your overall strategy in mind, narrow your focus, search for the back door keywords, and you will be a master of gorilla SEO, the predator, not the prey.

In the last few months, we've seen a lot of activity from Bing, with heavy marketing investment aimed at raising its profile. It's perhaps worth examining the methods used to push Bing into the public's consciousness and to carve itself a slice of the search market. Have their campaigns made much of an impression? How will Google react to Bing and what does the future hold in terms of competition between the two?
Bing Campaigns
Most obviously, Bing has mounted a TV campaign aimed at raising its profile. While it's highly likely that you will have seen one such ad, there have been other forms of promotion that haven't been so apparent to those outside the industry.
One significant move is Bing's 10-year deal with Yahoo! which will see Yahoo! search results powered by Bing. As Yahoo! has the second-largest share of the search market, this allows Bing access to that.
Bing is also paying close attention to social media. This is reflected in the creation of bing.com/twitter and bing.com/social - sites that let users search Twitter and Facebook content for relevant updates, including tweets and Facebook fan pages. Bing is also responsible for Facebook's search option. With social media ever-expanding, this is a key audience to capture and increases Bing's influence greatly.
Bing has also tried to popularise 'Bing it' instead of 'Google it' and has even had a Bing-branded ice cream van giving away freebies in London. Is all of this working?
Google's response to Bing
Bing first appeared in May 2009 and ever since it has been spoken of as a potential rival to Google. With the weight of Microsoft behind it, Bing could have an impact if marketed in the right way. It's notable that Google has reacted in several ways:
Background image for the homepage - recently, Google implemented a change allowing users to personalise their homepage with an image of their choice. Although it is only an option, this reflects the format of the Bing homepage.
Results pages - Google has adopted several features from the Bing results pages. If you compare the two, you will see a number of similarities in terms of related searches and the like.
PPC - Sponsored links are presented in a similar way on the two search engines. Some say that there are better conversion rates on Bing, which, if true, will doubtless be something that Google is looking into.
Conclusion
Google will remain top of the pile for a good while to come with regard to search engine optimisation, but Bing's profile is rising, perhaps more so than its current market share. By establishing the Bing brand in people's minds, it is better placed to make headway. TV adverts have created a certain buzz and the slogan 'Bing and decide' has proven quite memorable for many people, which could be marked down as a minor success.
In terms of SEO, the differences between the two search engines aren't huge. If you compare results pages for different searches, many are quite similar for both Google and Bing in terms of the links that are provided on the first couple of pages.

How do I find the PageRank of a Web Page? Well, PageRank is a score from zero to ten that Google assigns to a particular web page. The PageRank denotes the importance of the site in the eyes of Google and is determined by several factors, including the number of other important pages that are linking to that web page.
The higher the amount of important pages linking to a web page, the higher its PageRank or PR.
To find out the PageRank of a web page you need to download the Google Tool Bar, just search Google for this.
If you already have a Google Tool Bar but it does not have a PR button you may need to uninstall your old Google Tool Bar and install the new one.
Once you have the PageRank Button you can check out thePR of all your web pages and the pages of your competitors etc. If you see that one of your customers or suppliers sites have a good PageRank try and get them to link to you.
On average, if you have a PageRank of 2 you are doing well.
As you get more incoming links your PR should go up.
Please also bear in mind that your current PageRank is only a snap shot in time, it may be weeks or months before it changes, but it doesn't mean Google won't improve your rankings just because your PageRank is not increasing.
I have many web pages that appear on the 1st Page of Google that don't even have a PageRank. This is because I have all the SEO methods in place like Page Title, Keywords, Inlinks, and so on.

If you want to know how you can use Google keywords for search as well as understand how it all works, take note of what I'm about to say here. If you have a website online and are using keyword targeting for search engine optimization, good for you! You're on the right track. But if you're new to all of this, let me explain how Google keywords for search work.
There are really two sides to Google, if you really look at it. One, side is the free side and the other is the paid side. If you take a look at the paid side which translates into running Google AdWords ads which are the ads on the right side of the search page of Google, you'll see related ads based on your search. So, basically, those are ads that were paid for with the purpose of getting traffic to a specific website. Basically, what happens is when somebody searches for a certain keyword, related ads will show up. And these ads actually used the same keyword in their ad so that's why the ad appeared on the right hand side when the visitor entered that particular keyword in the search box. Now onto the other side of Google, the free side...
If you take a look at the free side of Google, basically we can typically call this the SEO or the free search side. A lot of times this free side is referred to as organic search. Basically what that means is you're optimizing your site for specific keywords or for specific words. So, what happens is when somebody searches for those particular keywords, and those same keywords are optimized well on your website, your site will actually get a higher rank or placement in the search engines. So you've got to find what words actually work best. When somebody's searching online, what words would you like to have your site appear for? Using free search engine optimization is one of the most inexpensive ways to gain traffic to your website.
One major tip is to use keyword software to target keywords that are in demand from your market. Note that some keywords are more popular than others - usually the main keywords. So, for example if you were in the niche of weight loss, that keyword "weight loss" will be very competitive. You can do search engine optimization for that term, but since it's overly competitive; it may be harder to rank for that term. A great strategy is to use long tail keywords. Long tail keywords refer to words which are 3 or more words. So instead of optimizing your page for the overly competitive term "weight loss", which may be difficult to rank well for, consider optimizing pages for three or more keywords like "weight loss vitamin" or "weight loss vitamin for women". You'll be amazed at how well you can rank for such terms since there are quite a few people entering those terms in the search box.
If you want to gain more traffic to your website think outside the box. Google is a vast search engine that can give you a ton of opportunities to rank well for your market. Whether free or paid, you can do very well if you take the time to carefully look at your market and the capabilities of the Google platform.

Google doesn't index every site at the same speed if website A adds a new page at the same time as website B this does not mean they will both be indexed at the same time. Why is this? In this article I will discuss why this happens and what you can do to be website A.
Let's start by discussing why Google indexes webpage's quicker than others. The reason Google will index a page from website A before website B is mostly due the frequency that you add new pages to your website. If you think about it if you are adding pages every day then Google is going to pick up on this and crawl your website more often in search of new unique content. If on the other hand you only add new pages once a month then Google won't index your new content as regularly.

For example if you add you content to websites like Digg which is a website that get indexed very frequently then Google will find your link and follow it to your website. Then from there Google can decide whether to index your webpage or not.

Links, the cornerstone of off-page SEO elements are widely considered to be external references pointing to the pages of a website. Link Building is usually considered to be an activity which has nothing to do with the website. However, delving a little deeper in to the link evaluation strategies of search engines will make you realise that links need not always be external and that a lot of value can be derived by making good use of pages within the website itself. In fact, an understanding of Google PageRank can help you identify that links to a page for quantification purpose, are counted merely in numbers and one of the best ways to acquire these numbers are pages that are a part of the website themselves. So, how to smartly use these abundant links (through pages within) and derive maximum link equity?
Here are a few suggestions
Hierarchical Organization
Arrange the website as an organized hierarchy of pages. This will automatically yield the sitemap structure. For large websites, the hierarchy can be separated into sections and sectional sitemaps can be generated, controlling the amount of links on the sitemap pages. The hierarchy also helps in generating XML sitemaps, used largely by the search engines.
Intra sectional linking
With the website being organised hierarchically, sections (or categories) are natural fallout. These sections are basically closely related collections of pages and provide an excellent opportunity to create a closely linked structure within them. Intra sectional linking can be achieved through sectional navigation (e.g. section oriented left navigation), section focused footer linking etc. As links to every other page within the section exists on all pages, it results in close coupling of the sectional pages leading to a strong intra sectional linking scenario.
Inter sectional linking
Inter sectional linking results from cross-references as well as categorization within the hierarchy. Typically, inter sectional linking happens between pages separated by a level, such as categories and sub-categories, where all category pages link to their respective sub-categories and all sub-category pages link to their parent categories as well as other categories at the same level as their parent category. Effective use of this technique helps to generate inter sectional link mesh.
Follow through navigation
Due to inter relation between content and pages, a user can take multiple routes to reach the same page. A clear listing of all these routes originating from the home page provides follow through or breadcrumb navigation as it is popularly known. The technique is especially effective for eCommerce/content rich websites, involving multiple levels.
Content based references
Links from within the content are perceived to be the strongest of all link forms. Hence references, from within the content provide excellent opportunity to target adhoc, yet extremely valuable content references. As these links cannot be planned for, they also have the advantage of appearing extremely natural form of links.
Glossary/Dictionary
For large websites, it makes sense to create a glossary/dictionary of terms (especially domain related keywords) and provide automatic linking to appropriate pages describing these keywords/terms in detail by means of dedicated pages, which are specially promoted for these keywords.
Custom Errors
As a website grows, some of the linkages become redundant and if the site is cleansed of old content, there is a high possibility of broken links getting created. How do I find the PageRank of a Web Page? Well, PageRank is a score from zero to ten that Google assigns to a particular web page. The PageRank denotes the importance of the site in the eyes of Google and is determined by several factors, including the number of other important pages that are linking to that web page.
The higher the amount of important pages linking to a web page, the higher its PageRank or PR.
To find out the PageRank of a web page you need to download the Google Tool Bar, just search Google for this.
If you already have a Google Tool Bar but it does not have a PR button you may need to uninstall your old Google Tool Bar and install the new one.
Once you have the PageRank Button you can check out thePR of all your web pages and the pages of your competitors etc. If you see that one of your customers or suppliers sites have a good PageRank try and get them to link to you.
On average, if you have a PageRank of 2 you are doing well.
As you get more incoming links your PR should go up.
Please also bear in mind that your current PageRank is only a snap shot in time, it may be weeks or months before it changes, but it doesn't mean Google won't improve your rankings just because your PageRank is not increasing.
I have many web pages that appear on the 1st Page of Google that don't even have a PageRank. This is because I have all the SEO methods in place like Page Title, Keywords, Inlinks, and so on.
