In the overall Asian market, buyers were seen restocking Polyol cargoes amidst fears of consistent hike in its feedstock prices in the coming months. Projecting a consistent increment since July, Polyester Polyol Ex-Depot prices on CFR India basis were averaged at USD 1942 per MT in the quarter ending September. In Q3 2021, tight supply dynamics of feedstock TDI in China due to planned turnarounds in Shanghai and North China hindered Polyol production in the region in Q3.

They may incorporate level sensors, conditioning jackets, and mixers. Pumps can be sized to meter in single grams per second up to hundreds of pounds per minute. They can be rotary, gear, or piston pumps, or can be specially hardened lance pumps to meter liquids containing highly abrasive fillers such as chopped or hammer-milled glass fiber and wollastonite. As expected, the new PPG has a notable durability-enhancing effect at all densities examine and shows a comparable wet compression set even at 15% reduced density. These results demonstrate that the new PPG contributes to density reduction for HR-molded foam applications. The new PPG produced by propoxylation with the new catalyst is a novel class of PPG that has an increased primary hydroxyl content of up to 70% and, therefore, exhibits enhanced reactivity toward polyisocyanates. For instance, it is several times more reactive than conventional PPG propoxylated with KOH in urethane formation reactions at approximately room temperature.
This group of compounds includes polyether polyols, also referred to as polyetherols, and polyester polyols. Polyether polyols are made by the reaction of organic oxide and glycol. Results from dynamic mechanical thermal analysis of prepared polyurethanes are presented in Fig.11–13. The β relaxation was observed by several authors in the case of polyurethanes [41–43] and can be related to the molecular motions in the polyol main chains and local motions of the polar urethane groups . Generally, thermal degradation of polyurethanes occurs in two main steps. The first step is connected with thermal decomposition of the hard segments (i.e., urethane groups), and the second step involves thermal decomposition of the soft segments (i.e., ester and ether bonds) [32–34].
A polyurethane is typically produced by reacting a polymeric isocyanate with a polyol. Since a polyurethane contains two types of monomers, which polymerize one after the other, they are classed as alternating copolymers. Both the isocyanates and polyols used to make a polyurethane contain two or more functional groups per molecule. The foams based on ESTp were characterized by much larger cells than in the case of the materials based on ETHp. The same tendency was in the case of the PUR systems in which 50% of the petrochemical polyols had been replaced with BIOp.
Moreover, introduction of PEG moieties resulted in decreasing of tensile strength and hardness. The glass transition was found to be lower, which is resulted from higher mobility of polymer chains due to the presence of long-chain extender between fragments of the structure composed from tri-functional polyol. The market trends of polyether polyols reveal a dynamic landscape influenced by diverse industrial applications, sustainability considerations, and the demand for high-performance materials. One significant trend is the increasing use of polyether polyols in the production of polyurethane foams, which find extensive applications in the furniture, automotive, and construction industries.
A special silicone surfactant was applied to improve the emulsification of the polyol premix, to ensure opening of cells in a final stage of the foam rise and to stabilize the porous structure of the foams. The carbon dioxide generated during the foam growth process in the reaction of water with isocyanate groups was used as a chemical blowing agent. A mixture of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate isomers and oligomeric MDI containing 32.6 wt% of NCO groups was used as an isocyanate component. Despite the imposition of anti-dumping duties, an examination of trade data suggests that the impact on export volumes from countries that have been met with new duties has been limited.

This polyol product has high reactivity, smell-less, and wide product application tolerance. Supply of Polyols remained snug throughout the quarter as steep climb in feedstock prices in China pushed back some of its manufacturers from utilizing their full capacities. Amidst the limited supply, several traders were heard offering Polyol cargoes at premium to incur optimum gains from these market uncertainties. With ease in majority of containment restrictions, offtakes of Polyol cargoes from Southeast Asia showcased major revival in comparison to the last quarter. Despite the antidumping probe imposed on the cargoes of foam mattress originated from Southeast Asia, traders reported of steep increment in demand from the US buyers.
However, the supply activities, improved slowly by the end of the May as the production activities recovered effectively which were halted since Q1 due to winter devastation. Thus, the offers for Polyether Polyols price hovered around USD 3915/MT during the final week of June in USA. The Polyol price trend showcased bearish movement during quarter 2 of 2023. The demand was low from regional and international importers due to the sluggish activities in the Polyurethane sector and firm availability of supplies.
