Эдвин Лорд Уикс (Edwin Lord Weeks) – 1849-1903г.г. известный американский художник-востоковед. Всемирную известность ему принесли не только его картины, но и иллюстрированные книги о его путешествиях. Родился он в 1849 году в Бостоне, в семье зажиточного торговца пряностями и чаем. Родительские деньги позволили ему изучать живопись, как ему того хотелось с детства. Его первые известные работы были написаны в возрасте 18 лет. В 1970 году он женился, а годом позже отправился в своё первое путешествие на Восток, в Египет и Сирию. Затем он какое-то время жил в Париже и в 1875 году снова отправился на Восток, в Марокко и пробыл там 2 года. По возвращении он устроил в Бостоне выставку работ и успех был потрясающим. Доходы от продажи картин позволили ему финансировать свою поездку в Индию. Как он писал в своих письмах, в Индии «я каждый день проводил, рисуя, и каждую ночь, проявляя фотографии». Фотографии Уикс использовал как наглядный материл при рисовании деталей на своих картинах. Именно индийские работы принесли художнику мировую славу. В 1895 году он написал и иллюстрировал книгу «Через Чёрное море в Персию и Индию». В 1896 году получил звание рыцаря почётного легиона. Умер художник в 1903 году во Франции.

Helen Hyde (April 6, 1868 - May 13, 1919) was an American etcher and engraver. She is best known for her color etching process and woodblock prints reflecting Japanese women and children characterizations.
Born in Lima, New York, Hyde spent her adolescent years in California. Her art education began at the age of twelve when she studied for two years with her neighbour, Ferdinand Richardt, an American-Danish artist. After the death of Hyde's father in 1882, her aunt, Augusta Bixler, provided the remaining Hyde family with a home in San Francisco. Between 1882 and 1888, Hyde continued her education by graduating from Wellesley School for Girls and attending the California School of Design. For the next six years, Hyde developed her artistic talents through her studies with Franz Skarbina in Berlin and Felix Regamey in Paris. Regamey introduced Hyde to the Japonism movement through his vast Japanese art collection. The paintings of Mary Cassatt, an American impressionist, were also very influential in Hyde's decision to focus on Japanese attributes in her works. Mary Cassatt's paintings were significantly inspired by Japanese works of art, and many of her paintings were women and children themes. Hyde also studied with Emil Carlsen, an American painter, and Kano Tomonobu, the final master painter at the famous Kano school of Japanese painting.
By 1894, Hyde had returned to California and began to sketch likenesses of Chinatown women and children. Through her association with the Sketch Club, Hyde met and became friends with Josephine Hyde. Together they attempted color etchings, and in 1899, the two Hyde women settled in Japan to study the country's painting techniques.
While Josephine Hyde returned to America, Helen Hyde continued her study in Japan in color woodblock printing. In Japan, Helen Hyde learned the Japanese woodblock printing techniques from masters such as Emil Orlik, a European living in Japan. Hyde resided in Japan from 1903 through 1913 and refined color woodblock printing to a fine art. During this time, Hyde also traveled extensively to China, India, and Mexico. In 1914, Hyde left Japan and took up residency in the United States until her death in 1919.

Hajime Namiki was born in 1947 in Tokyo. He studied under Ogura Mozan and Kato Yaso. He works in a unique style that is instantly recognizable. A dedicated naturalist, he has a deep affinity for the wonders of nature. His prints shimmer with energy and capture the beauty of the trees and landscapes that are his favorite subjects. Although working in the tradition of Japanese woodblock masters, Namiki uses unconventional materials in his prints, such as silver and gold leaf and oil-based pigments. All his prints are pencil signed and numbered limited editions. Namiki's works have gained international acclaim in recent years, and his prints are included in many renowned collections, including the White House. Today his home and studio are in Kyoto.
