Formula 1: Daniel Ricciardo

Суббота, 26 Октября 2024 г. 16:55 + в цитатник

There is the one at the end of this journey we call life that is common to us all, but there is the other when your time in a sport, a sport that you have loved from the first moment you experienced it, comes to an end. Children grow, parents age, and one day you look in the mirror and do not recognize the person staring back at you. Gone is the young college freshman, or even the fresh-faced professional daniel ricciardo funny moments ready to take on the world. Instead, staring back at you is a middle-aged man, with more wrinkles than he would like, more grey hairs than he would care to admit, and a lingering thought of what he will leave behind. The 1997 world champion questioned whether Ricciardo deserved his place on the grid, before he responded by qualifying fifth in Montreal and taking eighth in the race.

In fact, Ricciardo's lack of sleep had started even before the race, for he was one of the millions around the world who stayed up on Saturday night to watch Emma Raducanu's remarkable triumph at the US Open. Daniel Ricciardo has not had a lot of sleep since he won the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday - but not because the McLaren driver has, as you might expect, been out on the town celebrating his first Formula 1 victory for more than three years. “I have every opportunity in front of me, and that’s the beauty,” he said during Thursday's media day in Zandvoort. “It’s up to me, and I know there is always pressure and there is the Red Bull system, but I know if I do the job then I will have a seat. In this quote, Daniel Ricciardo emphasizes the importance of consistency in achieving success. He argues that it is not a single moment of triumph that defines one's accomplishments, but rather the ability to consistently perform at a high level.
Ricciardo once again finished seventh at the Italian Grand Prix, having held off Grosjean in the dying laps. Ricciardo out-scored his teammate by seven points and out-qualified him for over three-quarters of the season. His impressive qualifying efforts of 30–7 against Vergne over their two years together helped promote him to Toro Rosso senior team, Red Bull, replacing fellow countryman Mark Webber. In Abu Dhabi, Ricciardo retired with mechanical problems after starting 20th on the grid, and in the final race at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Ricciardo finished 20th after starting 22nd on the grid. Ricciardo soon impressed with his speed and skill behind the wheel, proving that he could be one of the great stars of the future.

Ricciardo also prefers to carry more speed through the corner by making it more of a 'U' shape, utilising a little rear instability on entry to turn in, and enough grip to rotate the car mid-corner without the rear breaking away. Ricciardo was released by RB following the Singapore Grand Prix, and is to be replaced by Liam Lawson at the following United States Grand Prix onward. In 2015, Red Bull slipped behind Ferrari and Williams in their efforts to take the title fight to Mercedes. The Red Bull cars were held back by the Renault power unit having been out-developed by Mercedes and Ferrari.

But the fallout of his crash with Max Verstappen whilst teammates at Red Bull in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2018 made it one of Ricciardo’s worst on-track moments. And yet, for about four and a half minutes on Sunday in Singapore, Ricciardo took back the spotlight.

This gave Lawson his series debut and the Kiwi contested the next five grands prix, during which he impressed by scoring points in Singapore after reaching Q3. Drive to Survive has caused F1’s popularity to skyrocket and Ricciardo became an enigmatic protagonist during season one, which followed the championship in 2018. It closely documented a crucial year in Ricciardo’s career as he weighed up his future options and the third episode – titled “Redemption” – captured his victory in Monaco, as well as the infamous collision in Baku.

Thus, Ricciardo crossed the finish line first, followed by Norris, scoring a legendary victory, McLaren’s first win since the 2012 Brazilian GP. On the first lap, Ricciardo fought against Lance Stroll not to lose position, overtook Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri and Fernando Alonso’s Alpine, and after Kimi Raikkonen’s accident, he moved up to thirteenth. After this masterclass move, the Australian took advantage of the extra stop Hamilton had to make to adjust his headrest, which had become loose. Then the 10-second penalty Vettel received to cross the finish line in the first position comfortably.
The Australian, in 12 years, has driven for HRT, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Renault, and McLaren, being one of the best drivers of the decade, achieving 8 victories, 32 podiums, 3 pole positions and 16 fastest laps. With all the rumours that the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix would be Ricciardo’s last race in F1, all eyes were on the Aussie, but a fairytale ending always looked unlikely. Ricciardo qualified in 16th position and slid down to 18th during the race, ahead of only a pair of DNFs. The Bahrain Grand Prix ended with controversy for the RB Formula 1 team, following a contentious decision to swap drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo in the race's final laps.

The role saw him complete PR activities, assist in simulator and factory work and, while attending race weekends, access chat channels and communications to support the race team. Ricciardo also drove the Red Bull Racing RB19 in the Pirelli tests held on July 11 at Silverstone in the 2023 British Grand Prix. Ricciardo ended a relatively disappointing season for Renault in ninth place in the championship, with 54 points, ahead of teammate Hülkenberg.
So many stories have been written, and so much has been said, about the rise in popularity of Formula 1, particularly in the United States. Inevitably, arrows point back to the Netflix docuseries Drive to Survive as the launching point, as the series brought fans old — and new — behind the scenes and into a world previously untouchable. Older fans caught a deeper glimpse into the strategy and machinations behind the pit wall, while newer fans were introduced to the personalities, exotic locales, and pageantry of one of the world’s fastest sports. After months of speculation, Ricciardo was released by Red Bull's junior squad following last month's Singapore Grand Prix, with Liam Lawson taking his seat for the final six rounds of the 2024 season. Seasons during his F1 career, making his race debut in 2011 for HRT after participating in free practice sessions in 2011 for Toro Rosso and achieving a career-best finish of 3rd in 2014 and 2016 for Red Bull. Ricciardo’s best Grand Prix result this season came in Canada when he finished in eighth place – another highlight was maintaining his qualifying position in the Miami Sprint and taking P4.

It’s hard to recall such a unanimous outpouring of sadness one driver’s departure can have on the paddock and fans. For instance, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso were both given fitting send-offs as world champions and many were rightly sad to see them depart – Alonso has since returned of course but that’s beside the point. After a disastrous qualifying session on Saturday, Ricciardo's woes continued into the race, finishing well down the order in P18 and once again behind team-mate Yuki Tsunoda. With Formula One under the new ownership of Liberty Media, how the sport is being covered is evolving, and GPFans will look to be at the heart of this progression into new media, as one of the fastest-growing sites covering the king of motorsports. We believe that a new generation of exciting, outspoken drivers will make F1 more popular than ever before, and we want to give our users access to as much of their heroes as possible, on and off the track.
