A painting I did for my second artbook, The Sketchbook of Loish! For one of the chapters, I developed an idea for a story and explored it through sketches and concept art. It was so fun to do, just developing my own idea from scratch.

Anyone can participate and you can recreate this art in any medium ~ recreate this character, post it, and tag it with #DA20thBirthday! Be sure to tag it, because you'll get a special badge for participating! Id love to see her in your style d

This painting is inspired by the art of Huang Xu, who makes hauntingly beautiful photographs of colored plastic bags floating against a dark background. The photos are so poetic and striking that I really wanted to try and capture that in my art.

It's been a while since I last drew a self portrait from my mirror reflection so I figured I'd give it another go. It's really hard trying to get the lighting right from real life observation, but I always feel like it's a great learning experience in retrospect!

I started painting this on the plane, looking outside. I travelled a lot in the last few years and spent a lot of time looking at skies and clouds, letting my mind wander. I really miss it, hoping that it will be safe to travel again next year.
