Recovered from the archives of the Ringworld Cambria in the fourth millennium of the Imperial Age, the Achillobator is an old and proven pattern, veteran of many wars and expeditions. Throughout the history of the fleet yards Annumaru, it was produced at a steady pace, traditionally in series of six or eight vessels. These would be launched as sisters, their fates entwined as well as their spirits.
Early on, it came to be regarded as an omen of ill-fate to separate these sister ships, and cruel ends awaited those who would attempt to do so nonetheless. This belief was not merely imperial superstition, but a pattern emerging from the correlated data, as it was gathered by the grand magi and priesthoods serving on those vessels. Though explanations for this eluded them, they marked this most unusual phenomenon and added it to the archived specifications of this vessel.
It was attributed most often to the machine spirit's strong personality, as all Achillobator spirits have been said to manifest much stronger instinctual behaviors as compared to other vessels. The strength of these spirits would make it impossible for uninitiated human crews to operate these vessels, as their temperament could be calmed only in close communion with the machine. If controlled properly, however, the Achillobator has been shown to be a remarkably resilient and fast-reacting vessel, operating with utmost efficiency, even compared to other Mechanicus Vessels.
