Pambalong Swamp lies immediately to the west of the M1 motorway near Lenaghan (north of Minmi). The swamp is protected as Pambalong Nature Reserve. It is also bisected by the now disused Pelaw Main railway. This part of the railway connected Stockrington Colliery with Hexham, and was the last section to be closed in 1987.
