This place of worship is located at about 920 meters of altitude to the North/Northeast of the village of Cabacos, Moimenta da Beira. It currently consists of two chapels, a bandstand, a viewpoint and a beautiful picnic 'area. The festival of San Torcato, (a festival that my grandfather Aur'elio never missed), takes place every year on two consecutive weekends, starting on the fourth Sunday after Easter, maintaining the tradition of taking the flocks to the chapel where the three rounds take place. The population also maintains the old custom of putting on the saint's hat to cure and prevent illnesses and ailments. Three-cornered hat, on the head of devotees who kneel next to the altar of the sacred image. Bibliographic records indicate the existence of an ancient monastery of the Canons of Santo Agostinho built in the 12th/13th century, in the place where the Sanctuary of S. Torcato is located today. At the end of the Middle Ages, S~ao Torcato was one of the main hermitages of the diocese of Lamego, where many popular pilgrimages took place, as can be read in the “History of Lamego” by Dr. Goncalves da Costa. The temple is increasingly visited, especially in the month of May, and is the largest pilgrimage in the municipality of Moimenta da Beira. Este lugar de culto situa-se a cerca de 920 metros de altitude a Norte/Nordeste da povoac~ao de Cabacos, Moimenta da Beira. 'E composto, atualmente, por duas capelas, um coreto, um miradouro e um bonito parque de merendas. A festa de S~ao Torcato, (festa que o meu av^o Aur'elio n~ao perdia), faz-se todos os anos em dois fins-de-semana seguidos, a comecar no quarto Domingo depois da P'ascoa, mantendo-se a tradic~ao de levar os rebanhos `a capela onde se cumprem as tr^es voltas. A populac~ao mant'em tamb'em enraizado o velho costume de colocar o chap'eu do santo para curar e prevenir doencas e maleitas. Chap'eu de tr^es bicos, na cabeca dos devotos que se ajoelham junto do altar da sagrada imagem. Registos bibliogr'aficos indicam a exist^encia de um antigo mosteiro dos C'onegos de Santo Agostinho constru'ido no s'eculo XII/XIII, no local onde hoje se encontra o Santu'ario de S. Torcato. Nos fins da Idade M'edia, S~ao Torcato era uma das principais ermidas da diocese de Lamego, onde se faziam muitas e concorridas peregrinac~oes, como se pode ler na "Hist'oria de Lamego" do Dr. Goncalves da Costa. O templo 'e cada vez mais visitado, sobretudo no m^es de maio, e constitui a maior romaria do concelho de Moimenta da Beira.
